Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ VBA ( macro ) sheet need to unprotect ** Urgent Help Required**

2012-11-05 Thread bhanu prakash
Paul,

I know the Rules of the forum...I had using this forum fro almost from long
time..appreciate your efforts in writing lengthy mail on this..

That exam itself designed by me..and I am not taking any exam ( Wrong
prediction) ..think positively ...this will nt have any loss for any one

Finally you suggested plenty of names for password...its better you use it
urself and dont suggest to anyone, which is not necessary here..none of
them buy ur suggestions here...

Hope had clarified your doubts in your mind..finally the gud news is that I
am capable of writing a VBA code to extract the source code in the file and
I am able to open file and do modification in the current test..

Had posted this file in this forum to get speedy & positive
response.never thought ppl like dont know solution to issue and
diverting the things in different way( negative minded persons--- I will
really petty on your wife)...now your long philosophy is just waste of time
of many..

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Send mail from outlook Every One Hr .

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
If you have the macro able to run by a button,
check the documentation for the OnTime function.

this should allow you to set it up to run at specific times.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Calculate years and months between today daye and given date

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
You know, I've used DateDIFF in VBA, and I THOUGHT there used to be an Excel
equivalent.
but when I looked in Excel2010, I didn't find it in the function wizard.

Now it looks like it's THERE, but undocumented.

You can find it in ONLINE help, but not in the help file in Excel.

---

it's kind-of odd though.

it does some truncating.

the difference between
9/5/2010 and 11/5/2012 is 2 years, 2 months
but the difference between
9/6/2010 and 11/5/2012 is 2 years 1 month.

That's because it says the difference is:
9/5/2010 and 11/5/2012
2 Years , 2 Months and 0 days
and
9/6/2010 and 11/5/2012
2 Years , 1 Months and 30 days

it works, but you really need to be careful when doing this kind of date
calculation.

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
Have you noticed Forum Rule #1?

---
1) Use concise, accurate thread titles. Poor thread titles, like Please Help,
Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will not get
quick attention or may not be answered.
---

I'm sure that there are many people out there that will be more than happy to
help you.
Just as I am sure that there is bound to be several people that know exactly
what you need and can help you quickly.

But... EVERYONE that posts a new question here "requires help".

There's a good possibility that half of the people that COULD help choose not
to

simply because they don't feel that you are willing to even follow basic
guidelines

that are designed to help US help YOU.

Which, sometimes doesn't make much sense that I would spend this many
keystrokes
offering CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, instead of simply helping with the problem...

But please, do yourself a favor and use a Subject line that will allow a person
with the expertise that can solve your problem to recognize where his/her
assistance is needed.

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ HELP REQUIRED FOR me

Dear SIrs,
I have an XL file with few sheets [ DATANov01]
One of the sheets contain general info named -common info
.
One sheet named DATA has 5col.
I need to generate as many files from this single file as many are
-unique values of the col. B[Circle].

The new files so generated must have names which are generatd with
the uniq values
obtained [ eg MUMBAINov01, BENGALNov01 etc. ]

The split files DATA must have all the col of DATA sheets A thru E except B
The split files must have ALL rows containing the uniq col in the sheet
say MUMBAI has only MUMBAI realated rows [ w/o colm B, now redundant.]

All other sheets  of the file must stay unchanged.

Cheers

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ VBA ( macro ) sheet need to unprotect ** Urgent Help Required**

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
Notice Forum Rule #3?

3) Don't post questions regarding breaking or bypassing any security measure.

WE don't have any way of knowing if you own the code or are simply trying break
into the code to determine some type of proprietary information (hacking)
If you are attempting to perform some illegal activity (obtain proprietary
information, etc.)
then we would them become accomplices in your activity.

>From the looks of your file, it looks like someone's classwork, in which you
>are
attempting
to find the correct answers, instead of doing the work... (if so, tsk tsk).

If this is truly "urgent", then there ARE companies out there (try Googling)
that,
for a fee, will attempt to circumvent the security of your file.

These companies have their own procedures in place to protect them from
the legal aspects of the service they provide. (hence the need for the "fee")

We, however, have no such protection.

If, indeed, this is YOUR file, and need to get at the VBA in order to grade the
exams,

then I would suggest trying the name of your dog, wife, girlfriend, or
combination thereof.
(that is, the name of your girlfriend's dog, not girlfriend's wife.. which
would
be disturbing)

sorry, and good luck.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ iterative / sequential find and replace

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
I'm not quite sure what you mean by using find/replace.
I realize you want to replace "1a" with "2", but perhaps there's more to it
than
that.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a VBA solution, or a Excel "menu" solution?

Is the data sorted? or are you intending to perform this replacement to ENABLE
a
sort?

We could easily split the line using the "." as a delimeter,
load the lines into an array.
sort the array,
output the array, using the array index instead of the first element (1a,1b,
etc.)

But, before I spend a whole bunch of time developing a wild approach to a
problem that turns
out to be nothing like what I thought I was dealing with,
perhaps I need some more information, and perhaps a larger sample of data...

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ iterative / sequential find and replace

Hi,
I frequently have lists, each entry of the list is a one-sentence paragraph
ending in a full-stop (period), and is prefixed by a non-sequential number or
letter or combination, followed by a full-stop and then a tab. So, it might
look
like this (tabs are shown as arrows, for clarity):

1.→People like to help in online forums.
1a.→Hopefully they will be able to help this time.
x.→I'll be a little stuck without some help with this.

The reason that the prefix is non-sequential and unpredictable is that the
order
of the list is shuffled about a lot during editing, and for reasons I can't
explain here, I cannot use MS Word's autonumbering feature. Once the list has
been finalized, I have to renumber the entries sequentially:

1.→People like to help in online forums.
2.→Hopefully they will be able to help this time.
3.→I'll be a little stuck without some help with this.

Can anyone suggest how to do this? The lists are consistent enough that I think
it should be possible to "find" "^p*.^t", but (assuming this is correct), I
don't know how to get the "replace" bit to work the way I want. Any help would
be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Calculate years and months between today daye and given date

2012-11-05 Thread Paul Schreiner
You've asked for the FORMULA,
That implies that you don't want to use VBA, but wish to use Excel formulas.

Let's say that the date you're checking is in A2,

The simple answer is to subtract this year "Year(Today())"
>From the year of the of the date in A2 "Year(A2)"
giving:
YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(A2)
The month calculation is similar:
MONTH(TODAY()) - MONTH(A2)

However, if the month happens to be AFTER the current month

For instance, checking December 12, 1954
Then the month calculation becomes negative.
In which case, you would need to subtract (1) from the year result,
and subtract this month difference from 12.

So, I'd say that the first thing you must do is check to see
if the month value of the date in question is after the current month,
then modify your formula accordingly:

=IF(MONTH(TODAY()) < MONTH(A2),
YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(A2) - 1 &" years, " & 12+MONTH(TODAY()) - MONTH(A2) & "
months",
YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(A2) &" years, " & MONTH(TODAY()) - MONTH(A2) & " months")

You can use the following formula

=YEAR(D4)-YEAR(D3)&" Years"&" "&MONTH(D4)-MONTH(D3)&" Months"

$$Excel-Macros$$ iterative / sequential find and replace

2012-11-05 Thread Paul
Hi,
I frequently have lists, each entry of the list is a one-sentence paragraph
ending in a full-stop (period), and is prefixed by a non-sequential number
or letter or combination, followed by a full-stop and then a tab. So, it
might look like this (tabs are shown as arrows, for clarity):

1.→People like to help in online forums.
1a.→Hopefully they will be able to help this time.
x.→I'll be a little stuck without some help with this.

The reason that the prefix is non-sequential and unpredictable is that the
order of the list is shuffled about a lot during editing, and for reasons I
can't explain here, I cannot use MS Word's autonumbering feature. Once the
list has been finalized, I have to renumber the entries sequentially:

1.→People like to help in online forums.
2.→Hopefully they will be able to help this time.
3.→I'll be a little stuck without some help with this.

Can anyone suggest how to do this? The lists are consistent enough that I
think it should be possible to "find" "^p*.^t", but (assuming this is
correct), I don't know how to get the "replace" bit to work the way I want.
Any help would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul
