I've tried searching for the answer to this question on google, but i'm not
getting anywhere. I'm hoping some programming guru will see an answer where
i cannot.

I have a Word document that contains citations for documents. The citations
would often be between other text that is not important to resolving the
query:

Eg.
......The appeal was allowed. Subsequently the Board in Huggins v The State
*(2008) 73 WIR 420*, PC, in reviewing most of the authorities on the issue,
reiterated the need for prosecuting counsel....

The area in bold is the citation.

What I want is a macro that will take the citation, put it in a format that
can be used to search an online database (I assume i'd need to know more
about how the database handles the query and if there is an API or
something, again..not very sure) and then open a browser to execute that
query.

I know that programs exist to do this very thing eg. Lexis for Microsoft
Office and LexisCheck in the UK.

Could anybody shed some light as to where I should start looking?
