Basically I want to run this below macro for each and every workbook

$$Excel-Macros$$ Important - Help needed with graph and input box

2009-09-09 Thread TAlgo

All,

This is just my thought but have no idea how to proceed. Can someone
please provide a solution, I will really appreciate.

Not sure how to attach a spreadsheet by my data spreadsheet is
uploaded to File section known as DATA.XLSX.

Col A. contains dates ( 1-Jan to 16-Aug ) and Col B-K contains data
starting year 2001-2010 for the same dates.

I would like to create a Date Range Input box so whenever I specify
date ranges, it automatically pulls data of those dates from 2001 to
2010 and creates some type of line chart.

E.g I specify date1: 3-march and date2: 10-June then line graph
shopuld be create automatically.

Hope this is clear. Thanks in advance.

Paul,

When I click the test.xlsm file it always opens as 2007 version, no
prior version of any excel is open at that time.

now I tried your suggested approaches:

1. Used C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE C:
\foldername\test.xlsm BUT this doesnt trigger to initiate my
test.xlsm in any format. Is thata anything missing on this one?

2. Yesterday I changed the setting by going to Tools and Folder
Options and did exactly as what you suggested BUT with no luck.

3. As of now rest of the firm is still using 2003 so I need that
version for testing and reporting purpose.

Thanks

When you say that when you open test.xlsm directly it opens as a regular

When you do this, is Excel already open and then you double-click the file
 from an explorer window
(or use the Open- menu )?

What I suspect is that your Windows installation has Associated the
Excel2003 to the .xlsm file extension.
Depending on how you want your system to operate, there are several solutions.
 1) in your Scheduled Task, in the 'run' box, you have the file name:
 c:\foldername\test.xlsm
instead, tell it which program you want to use to open the file:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE
 C:\foldername\test.xlsm

 2) Change your file association.  Open an Explorer window (My Computer).
Select Tools - Folder Options, then select the File Types tab.
Scroll down to the .XLSM file type, and hit the Change button.
Now BROWSE to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE file

 3) Uninstall Excel 2003 (I know, it may not be possible due to the need for
 testing,etc)

 hope this helps.

hey Paul,

I tried your option #1 with this one in RUN: C:\Program Files

this does not trigger to open my file.

It works if I keep C:\temp\Test.xlsm under RUN

should it be under STart in? my start in : C:\Documents and Settings

 C:\foldername\test.xlsm
I REALLY doubt that you have a folder called 'foldername'!
Also, keep in mind that if your any of your folders or file names have a
 space,
you'll need to enclose the name in quotes:

 C:\Documents and Settings\MY Very Own Folder\test 1.xls

 try again

personally, I think #1 is the best solution.
Although #2 SHOULD have worked too... unless you accidently
changed the association to the 2003 version!
 (they're both called EXCEL.EXE !!!)

Options and did exactly as what you suggested BUT with no luck.

 3. As of now rest of the firm is still using 2003 so I need that
version for testing and reporting purpose.

 Thanks

I assume that you have both versions of Excel loaded and don't wish to

When you say that when you open test.xlsm directly it opens as a regular

When you do this, is Excel already open and then you double-click the file
  from an explorer window
(or use the Open- menu )?

What I suspect is that your Windows installation has Associated the
Excel2003 to the .xlsm file extension.
Depending on how you want your system to operate, there are several
  solutions.

     Now BROWSE to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE
  file

  3) Uninstall Excel 2003 (I know, it may not be possible due to the need for
  testing,etc)

  hope this helps.

B1 = last traded price of crude oil futures ( get through DDE link so
keeps changing every sec ) e.g. 6500

B2 B3 ( I define the range so if B1 goes between the value specified
in B2 and B3 then run another macro ( Call BuyBeansSellProducts )
which will enter multiple Buy Orders in to exchange)

B5 B6 ( i define range for running macro will send Sell Orders ) -
Call SellBeansBuyProducts

Till yesterday my code was running smoothly just today something
happened it stopped reacting and if B1 value goes between values
specified in B5 and B6 nothing happens, it doesnt run
SellBEANSBUYPRODUCTS macro...but at the same time...it works great

 Hello.
Use the OnTime command in your macro. This means that your workbook has to
be open and your macro running at the activation time. However, if you use
Excel 2007, you could place the master workbook in a trusted folder (that is
to say that an auto open macro can run at open without security
questioning). Then, use the Windows task manager to schedule the execution
of a .bat file containing  :
 cmd /c c:\TrustedFolder\masterfile.xls
 Hope this helps.

 Hi,

You just need to find a unused cell near by, and use it as a recorder.

If the unused cell is, say, E1, then your macro would look like this:

 Sub resetval_SCRUSH()
 Range(d1) = 0

 Range(E1) = Range(E1) + 1
 End Sub

You may need to start by putting 0 (zero) into E1, but try without first.

 Hope this helps.

then, do the same thing but also record the date/time of the data record?

Let me see if I get this correct. I' have a cell - A1 which receives
'LAST Traded Price ' of a stock through DDE so cell A1 keeps changing
dynamically during trading session.

I need a macro which will copy value from A1 and place in B1

then when A1 changes it copies to B1 and  earlier B1 value moves to B2
and so on..but i want this process to be limited up to B 20 .so no
value in B21

hope its clear otherwise just let me know if you have questions

Thanks and regards,- Hide quoted text -

Paul, it works but my value in cell A1 is derived from external
sources via DDE. you think worksheet event does not recognize cell
value if its DDE?

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Excel Macro - copying cell value as it changes

2009-06-03 Thread TAlgo

Basically value has to change for macro to trigger and copy and paste
to another cellthere is no fix time when A1 (last traded price )
will update..normally its every few seconds.

So A1 will only update ( change price ) if there is new price
otherwise it will remain the same and macro wont be triggered

Example:
say 'last traded price ' in A1 = 35
macro wont trigger till A1 changes to 34 ( so A1 will be 34 and B1
will be 35 ( earlier value )
Again till A1 changes to another value say 36 ( now A1 = 36 )and (B1 =
34 and B2 = 35 )
A1 changes to 35 then ( A1 = 35 ) and ( B1 = 36, B2 = 34, B3 = 35 )

so my B column values will be 36,34,35...

Does it makes sense?

On Jun 3, 1:41 pm, Paul Schreiner schreiner_p...@att.net wrote:
I think I may have something...
 but there's a new wrinkle...
I know A1 is being updated from an external source.
let's say it updates every minute...
but what if the value hasn't CHANGED since the last update?
let's say for the last 10 minutes, the values were:

 1,2,5,5,5,6,7,5,5,3

Would it be acceptable to show the last 20 DIFFERENT values?
 as in:  1,2,5,6,7,5,3 ??

If so, I think we can use the Calculate event to trigger
 the update.

 Private Sub Worksheet_Calculate()
     Dim x
     If (ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 2) ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 1)) Then
     For x = 20 To 2 Step -1
     ActiveSheet.Cells(x, 2) = ActiveSheet.Cells(x - 1, 2)
     Next x
     ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 2) = ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 1)
     End If
 End Sub

now, if you really want to keep the duplicates
(just to show that the values haven't changed for x number of cycles)
then... is it possible for your DDE update to also update a cell with
the TIME of the last update?
then, do the same thing but also record the date/time of the data record?

 ??

 Paul
