Make sure the user is not hidden before you resolve for the first time
and the mailbox will not appear until the user receives and email or
resolves for the first time.

We have built the following test structure:

 Two Win2K domains - ua.lucent.com, test.ua.lucent.com, one site
(default). GC was configured in each domain. DomainPrep was run in
both domains. Exchange 2000 on member server was placed into
 ua.lucent.com

When I am creating mailbox for a user from child domain
test.ua.lucent.com the wizard works fine but I can't see the user in
GAL and Outlook client can't resolve the name. I can't also see him
among mailboxes in Server Manager. Everything works fine for users
from ua.lucent.com. What possibly could be wrong or misconfigured?

DomainPrep was run in both domains.

Subject: Problems viewing items in contacts folder

 Hi All.

 We are running Exchange 5.5 Sp4 on NT4 Sp6.

 I have the following situation:

 (1) Carol gives Stephanie owner permissions on her contacts folder.
 (2) Stephanie opens Carol's contacts folder on her
(Stephanie's) workstation by going to the File menu,
selecting 'Open other users' folder' and specifying Carol's
 contact folder.
 (3) Stephanie only sees a few of the items in Carol's
folder. When Stephanie tries to create a new contact in
Carol's folder, the contact is saved (because Carol can see
it) but Stephanie cannot see it. This happens whether the
items are single entries or if they are distribution lists.

The same thing happens if Stephanie mounts Carol's mailbox in
her profile on her workstation. The default view does not
have any filters on it, and even creating a new view without
a filter does not correct the situation. Carol is using
OL2k, but Stephanie has the problem when Stephanie uses OL2k
or OLXP. (Although, in XP, Stephanie can use the find a
contact feature to list all the contacts in the folder, and
all the items appear to be returned in the search.)

Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know of a solution
or a reason why it occurs?

 Thanks.

RE: RBDL Tools

2002-03-29 Thread Neubauer, Joseph

You can use the trust level setting (assuming you are not syncing with MS Mail) to
make the accounts unique

The query below is used to populate a list with all of the mailbox accounts on a
particular server (Exchange2) unless their trust level has been changed from the
default of 20. If we have a mailbox that should not be included we change the trust
(a.k.a. replication-sensitivity in LDAP speak) level to 100, but you can change it to
anything other than 20.

RBDL=LDAP://Exchange2/o=ORG/ou=SITE;((objectClass=organizationalPerson)(replication-sensitivity=20)(Home-MDB=cn=Microsoft
 Private
MDB,cn=Exchange2,cn=Servers,cn=Configuration,ou=SITE,o=ORG));cn,adspath;subtree

In your example below you might need to use something like (!givenname=bob) or
(givenname!=bob) I don't remember the exact not syntax off the top of my head.

Yes, I've used it quite successfully in the past... Didn't I answer this question for
you already? RBDL creates DLs based on LDAP queries if you build the query in such a
manner that it excludes your special mailboxes they'll be excluded. Have you looked at
the examples that are included with the tool? How do you know your special mailboxes
are special?

e.g. Oh magic RBDL 8 ball build me a list which includes all users whose first name
isn't Bob.

RBDL=LDAP://ServerName/o=Acme/ou=Northamerica/cn=Recipients;
((objectClass=organizationalPerson)((givenName!Bob)));cn,adspath;onelevel

Has anyone used this tool successfully? Can Rules
Based DLs prevent special mailbox from being added
to the DL? What is the command string to do this or
how do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, you must have been looking for the list where you pay people to be
nice to you, rather than the one where folks take time out of their busy
lives to provide help - to people that have taken the trouble to try and
help themselves.

You want polite? It's real fscking easy - call Microsoft PSS, pay the
support fee, and they'll walk you through it.

Otherwise...

Import of Dir entries

2002-03-29 Thread Pennell, Ronald B.

I exported my dir to a csv file and changed the home server name in my test
lab... I imported the file and created
blank mailbox's for all clients - except it didn't created mailboxs for
clients who were listed in the receipents container.
The users mailbox information is in the directory but no mailbox built in
the priv. So when I try to send email to those
clients I get the error that no mailbox exists.

Is there an easy way to get those mailbox's created without removing the
entries?

Ex.5.5 sp4, nt4.0 sp6a

RE: RFI on restricting attachment sending

2002-03-29 Thread Lentz, Wayne

Exchange2k is beyond the horizon. With a single site and domain, AD and E2k
provide little reason to move forward for us. Except for things like this
:-)

I'll suggest we modify our policies to include this requirement and keep
logging cranked up. Anymore suggestions, I'd be happy to hear em.

Thanks again
Wayne

Upgrade to E2K and I can put one of the talented developers in my stable to
work on the problem immediately and probably have a solution that costs 20%
of Borderware et all. On Exchange 5.5 your options are much more limited.

Subject: RFI on restricting attachment sending

 Environment:
 Servers/Workstations are NT4 SP6a.
One Ex5.5 SEE SP4 with TM ScanMail 3.x
 Outlook2000 clients.
OpenBSD/Borderware firewall relays mail for Exchange.

 Situation:
I have been asked to configure the mail system so that we
have more granular control over the sending of attachments
outside the company's mail system. Kind of like standard
attachment blocking, but having a separate block list for
each mailbox, and it only being applied to mail flowing
 outward on the IMC.

 Plea for info:
Anyone know of something like this? A hopefully small app
that plugs straight into Exchange, on the same server? Maybe
 even dev something for us?

 Thanks to all

RE: Import of Dir entries

2002-03-29 Thread Ben Winzenz

How about some more info such as if the Site, Org, etc remained the same or
not. Have you looked at the import log? It will tell you why a mailbox
could not be created if you asked it to.

Subject: Import of Dir entries

I exported my dir to a csv file and changed the home server name in my test
lab... I imported the file and created
blank mailbox's for all clients - except it didn't created mailboxs for
clients who were listed in the receipents container.
The users mailbox information is in the directory but no mailbox built in
the priv. So when I try to send email to those
clients I get the error that no mailbox exists.

Is there an easy way to get those mailbox's created without removing the
entries?

RE: Import of Dir entries

2002-03-29 Thread Pennell, Ronald B.

Just checked my import file and noticed that some of the home server changes
didn't change. Can I just re-import the .csv file again with the changes.
Would that mess up the other entries that already have blank mailbox's from
the first import.

Didn't want to populate my test lab with 60 gbs' of mail, so I decided to
start with blank
mailbox's by just using the dir.edb. Server names changed - so I was
changing the home server name
in the .csv file..

RE: Import of Dir entries

2002-03-29 Thread Ben Winzenz

In my experience, that would work fine. During the import, you have the
option to append or overwrite settings. If you re-import the entire file,
and it finds a mailbox already exists, it won't re-create it for you, so no,
it shouldn't mess that up for you.

You need to resolve the mailbox name in the profile again since the DN of

Scanmail for Exchange 2000 ?

2002-03-29 Thread Mike Lagase

If there is anyone out there running Scanmail for Exchange 2000 and knows
how to NOT send a notification to the end user that Scanmail deleted or
quarantined an email, please reply and let me know.

I have looked through all of the options, but are looking for a way to do
this. No matter if I set the spam rule up to delete or quarantine the email,
it always send the recipient an email.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yahoo has changed everyone's marketing preferences to yes so

Go to the main YahooGroups page and click on Account Info at the top

click on Edit Your Marketing Preferences where you will probably
find a check in the 'Yes' column by each and every thing. Then go to
the bottom of the page and make sure you uncheck the places where you
give them permission to mail stuff or call you (unless you want them

Hopefully this will help cut down on the amount of spam people get

E2K Migration Groups

2002-03-29 Thread swynk1

I established the Native-Mode domain to host the Universal Group and
created a CA to replicate only distribution lists to it. I also installed
the first Exchange 2000 server into the same site as the Exchange 5.5. The
information store suppose to detect what distribution list being used to
assign permission on Public Folder and convert them to a Universal
Security Group. They only exist in the native mode domain and not the
other domain. The Information store suppose to automatically convert them
to USG. I verified that the group are being used to assign permission to
PF.

Any idea why there are still UDG and not being converted to USG? They are
too many to convert manually.

Thanks,

For any domain in which no Exchange 2000 servers will exist, you need to
manually create a Recipient Update Service under Recipients- Recipient

We have built the following test structure:

 Two Win2K domains - ua.lucent.com, test.ua.lucent.com, one site
(default). GC was configured in each domain. DomainPrep was run in
both
domains. Exchange 2000 on member server was placed into ua.lucent.com

When I am creating mailbox for a user from child domain
test.ua.lucent.com the wizard works fine but I can't see the user in
GAL
and Outlook client can't resolve the name. I can't also see him among
mailboxes in Server Manager. Everything works fine for users from
ua.lucent.com. What possibly could be wrong or misconfigured?

I know this is a exchange mailing list, but:

Very often I come across small companies (5 to 10 PC's) and they need
something like exchange. They are already using outlook and they need to
share calendar and email. Therefore I think exchange is overkill, they
would need somewhat a tiny exchange. Is there a solution for that? What
are you doing in these situations?

Thanks for any suggestion

Hi all

We already have an operational NT-AD domain some GC and one exchange 2000 I
native mode.
Please should we anticipate any problem (nt-ad related or MSX related) if we
insert another server to our network that does not belong to the NT-AD ?
This server is a server installed over win2000 (different NT domain that the
operational network) server and has Exchange2000 in (native msx2000 mode)
also a GC. we want to insert this server to reproduce a problem that only
happens on servers behind a firewall.

access to their free email service. (As an aside: Expect this to happen
everywhere. The whole purpose of free email is to make you go to a
website. They cannot do that if you are not even using a browser.) You
have to read it via HTTP, or pay a fee for POP3. Said poster said he did
receive a message about it. Maybe there is more information in the Help

notice a while ago. You can check the notice on the POP Access and
Forwarding section.

Subject: Re: Yahoo! SPAM

UPDATE: When I changed my Marketing Preferences to NO on all SPAM,
Yahoo! shut me out of POP. I can't POP any of my accounts that I turned
off the SPAM on.

Has any one else noticed this phenomon?

2002-03-29 Thread javier villalpando

Hi,
I want to implement this and I'm looking for info. Microsoft has little info
on interorg replication.
Does anyone can pass me some additional resources?
Thanks in advance
Javier

Using Exchange 5.5 in different Orgs.

2002-03-29 Thread tohellwithu

How can I configure Exchange 5.5 to work (sync) between two different
organizations. I have two existing companies who want to send and receive
e-mails no matter what office or domain they are in.
