mcse advancement

2002-04-08 Thread James Mike

I have been a system admin, administrator and system engineer and have
been in the IT industry for 5 years. Am looking to start specialising in
Active Directory, Windows 2000 and Exchange. Have a MCSE 2000 and studying
for CCNA but am finding it hard to get something in central london.

Any advice on what I may expect when going for interviews etc on the
above. (Tech questions in particular, what I should focus on)

Creating alias within w2000 require new domain?

2002-03-19 Thread James Mike

Let say your domain is @testing and you create an alias for your user that
is @nottesting. You want this address to send mail to this infomation
store. Is the only option in 2000 to create a new domain called
nottesting. If so how would you do this.

Eg: Mr x has email account [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Mr x has alias under this acount set to SMTP: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If anyone can give me any info it would be great.

Urgent help to virus scan email internally.

2002-03-08 Thread James Mike

Anybody have any ideas on how to implement a virus scanning avi within
exchange 5.5 between two exchange servers within domain.

Have been researching without much luck.

Previously one exchange server got infected and spread the virus to all
other exchange servers. I need a solution that can filter off x.400 and
also enable directory synching to take place.

Another Idea was to add a second exchange server in front of the real
exchange server and set a virus scanner on this one.

Is there a way of stoping the messages via MTA at one exchange server and
then passing it on to the main server.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Automate Sophos Anti Virus in outlook

2002-03-06 Thread James Mike

Need to automatically update virus IDE via sophos which then download into
a mailbox and automatically update. Have managed to use sget and the
message downloads. I am now trying to get it to automatically run when
recieved.

In the rules wizard of outlook I have used:
Apply this rule after message arrives
from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
start c:\sophos-update.bat
and delete it.

Can see the message coming in however it does not seem to run.

If anyone knows a way to do this in outlook 2000 - please let me know.

x.400 filter virus scanning

2002-02-26 Thread James Mike

Fello Guru's,
Am looking for a solution which will scan for viruses within x.400
protocol. I have looked at Mailsweeper for exchange 2000 and this seems to
have the capability. However do not want to upgrade the domain to 2000.
Needs to be kept NT and exchange 5.5.

Mailsweeper for exchange 5.5 only picks up x.400 which is embedded in
smtp.

In the passed this large corporation had one of its exchange 5.5 which got
infected from within the domain, this then spread via X.400 to all other
exchange machines. SMTP are all very well when scanning external mail
coming in but I need to have a look at internal filtering.

Have had a look at clearswift which seems pretty reputable. Anybody have
some input to add. What I should set as main objectives and any thing I
should take into consideration.

Cheers
Mike
