RE: Mass Mailings

I second the LSoft recomendation.
Univ. of Cinci uses it and it's amazingly fast.
Like 10K messages delivered in 60 minutes.
We have webshield also installed on the box and god protect me, but it's all
running fine-:)

ListServ from LSOFT.COM is a good product. You set it up on it's own
machine and subdomain (lists.Sanantonio.gov) and let it chug.

One of the BETTER qualities of this product is that you can tune it so
that a domain only gets one message for the number of people subscribed,
rather than one message per recipient. (i.e. twenty users are listed at
BELLSOUTH.NET.. Only one message gets sent to BELLSOUTH.NET) You can
also chunk the traffic so that you don't flood out your ISP.

Hello All-

We currently have a division that is requesting to be able to
send mass mails through our server to opt-in recipients of a monthly
newsletter, this would be upwards of 70,000 pieces per month and will
increase as required. My question is has anyone received similar
requests and how were they handled? The division head assures me that
this list will be maintained and kept up to date and users who request
to be removed from the list will be, they currently outsource this
project and want to bring it in-house to save money. I believe in the
long run this will cause more problems than the savings will add up to,
any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

Chris

RE: Smtp ports - firewall

I believe 4460 is unassigned. However I think that Oracle's Portal server
users port 4460 for SSL.

Subject: Smtp ports - firewall

Its probably been doing it all along, but I've been monitoring our
firewall this morning, and found that when our SMTP server connects out
to some other SMTP servers, we see a TCP 25 connection as expected, but
we also see a TCP connection around port 4460 or similar, which our
firewall blocks.

What are these attempted connections for?

Thanks

RE: Re installing OWA for 5.5 on win2k box

2003-02-13 Thread Wehner, Paul (WEHNERPL)
Install required w2k/IIS5 patches as needed.
Copy the exchange installables to a local directory and rename servnnn.exe
to setup.exe
Select OWA only.
Install Exchange SP as fits your environment.

Do I have to install exchange server on this box
before I install OWA, I did not install exchange 5.5
or the service pack on the current NT box.

I have tried to install OWA 5.5 on this new win2k box
and I get the following error "setup has detected that
you are not running a set of windows nt related fixes
required for OWA. Please see the release notes for
further instructions.

As this is a win2k box what patches need to be
installed as I cannot install nt patches for a win2k
server.
Thanks

prohibit receive per mailbox?

2003-02-06 Thread Wehner, Paul (WEHNERPL)
We have a mailserver w/ 3K users. Users are classed faculty, staff, and
student and have 50,30,& 15 meg qoutas. Doing this required that "Use
Information Store defaults" be unchecked for all mailboxes. As a result no
mailbox has a prohibit send *and* receive limit.
I have checked technet but haven't found a good hit.
Anyone know the key word to import to turn on prohibit send and receive?

thanks,
paul

Secondary smtp question

2003-01-16 Thread Wehner, Paul (WEHNERPL)
I have 20K mailboxes that I've added a secondary smtp address to.
(obj-class, mode, alias, secondary-proxy-address)
What I'd like to do is flip flop all email address so that the secondary
smtp address becomes the primary.
I can't figure it out. Anyone have the magic?

thanks,
Paul

Subject: Calendar Problems

All,

I have a few admin assistants that are using a public folder calendar to
book conference rooms. We are having problems with recurring meetings
dropping off the calendar. All the admins have "Author" rights. So
obviously they can only delete their own items. None of them are saying
that they are deleted any of these meetings. I'm sure all Network admins
have heard that before. But if they are right. How can I resolve this
problem so the recurring items don't disappear? Thanks everyone.
