RE: Drafts Arriving in Inbox

2003-07-08 Thread Young, Phil
Bill,
Thanks for the reply. No rules are set for this user either on client or
server side. My money's still on the PDA's as one of the Desktop guys
suggested that when they use Bluetooth if it can't connect it hunts for
another device. I'm also checking if we have an old version of Outlook as
Inbox was the default location for Drafts with OL97.

Could it be as simple as having set a rule incorrectly in Outlook on the
client side?

Wild Guess,

Subject: Drafts Arriving in Inbox

Hi All,
We are running Exchange 5.5 SP4 with post sp4 Hotfixes, clients are a mix
of Outlook 2000 and 98, and I wondered if anyone has seen or can explain
the following.
One of our users received 8 messages into his Inbox all as draft messages
from 8 different people. The originators have been identified by their
signatures and I have looked in the various logs but other than their
sudden appearance in the Inbox nothing has been logged. As a result my
suspicion is that it is client related, and at one time we wondered if the
cause may be related to the fact that these users have PDA's and are using
Bluetooth, however, not all the originator's have this.
At the moment its only happened to one user, but its strange enough that I
sought the advice and experience of the list.
Any information on this would be great.

regards

Phil

RE: Virus heads up

2002-11-12 Thread Young, Phil
Thanks to everyone for their replies. I was worried in case the pattern was
not doing its job. We've got inbound from the Internet covered but have the
same problem as everyone else in that users don't do as they are told!
Thanks again.

Right... but there's nothing for an e-mail server to catch/filter since all
that is transmitted is a URL and the luser has to download said exe from a
web browser.

RE: Virus heads up

2002-11-12 Thread Young, Phil
OK so the pattern is just protecting us from the other actions that take
place if someone clicks on the URL, and the WORM_FRIENDGRT.B is not really a
virus?
I am happy to delete these messages but some users still ignore the warnings
we have given and it starts sending messages which I would have hoped would
be caught by the pattern file.

Um... there's no virus sent via e-mail, thus Scanmail has nothing to clean.

RE: Virus heads up

2002-11-12 Thread Young, Phil
Hi,
Has anyone successfully cleaned this virus using Trend Scanmail. We are
running Trend 3.52 in AVAPI mode with pattern 382 and I am yet to see it
successfully clean the virus. Are there any specific settings I should set
in Scanmail?
Thanks in advance.

Well, our Help Desk staff has proven that it *is* possible to ignore me.
But bad things tend to happen every time they do. Like users infecting
themselves with a new virus.

I'm still going to forward this to our Help Desk. I warned them, and
our security and network teams, about it when it first came around. A
few days later our Security team sent out a notice that it had made it
in and infected some desktops.

HELLOOO!! Desktop support - I SENT YOU the FRIGGIN NOTICE days ago.
Apparently they ignored the warning.

That's not *technically* a virus, but its been around for close to a
month
now.

It says in the EULA-that-noone-ever-reads that it will send messages to
all
your contacts.

If you stop Scanmail can you read the mails then or do you still have the
