Exchange cannot stand alone; Ex55 requires a domain, Ex2K requires AD.
Period.

We are in the process of redesigning our network and may need to take
our Exchange 2000 server out of our domain.
Since Exchange will out of the AD domain, it will not be able to get any
user info etc.
Basically how should I move an Exchange box out of domain to be a
standalone email server?

I think I may have to Exmerge to .pst and reload Exchange, then Exmerge
back.

Then you're putting a domain and/or AD in the DMZ. Don't do that.

We are in the process of redesigning our network and may need to take our
Exchange 2000 server out of our domain. Since Exchange will out of the AD
domain, it will not be able to get any user info etc. Basically how should I
move an Exchange box out of domain to be a standalone email server?

I think I may have to Exmerge to .pst and reload Exchange, then Exmerge
back.

Re: Moving out of a Domain

Put the engineers within their own high speed network and also tell them it
will come out of their budget. That usually quiets the room.

I would leave it where it is. Focus on upgrading your HW, and then see
where
 you are.

 PS: Engineers always complain! :)

Our engineers tend to complain about network speed, so I figure he wants
to
eliminate as much s possible. This is part of a much bigger plan. We are
also putting in faster switches, more subnetting etc? I'm just not sure
where to put the exchange box.

So what would be a recommendation to put an exchange box in DMZ.

Exchange cannot stand alone; Ex55 requires a domain, Ex2K requires AD.
Period.

We are in the process of redesigning our network and may need to take
our Exchange 2000 server out of our domain. Since Exchange will out of
the AD domain, it will not be able to get any user info etc. Basically
how should I move an Exchange box out of domain to be a standalone email
server?

I think I may have to Exmerge to .pst and reload Exchange, then Exmerge
back.

2002-02-15 Thread Daniel Chenault

Why would you want to do that? What is your intended end result; there's
likely another solution depending on what you're trying to achieve.
