Without knowing exactly WHAT it is that you are telling the rule to do, it
would be rather difficult to tell you WHY it's not working.

Hello,
I have 4 public folders and I need a rule that forwards all messages
received by the folder to a users mailbox. I used to have this set up when
we had exchange 5.5 but since we upgraded to exchange 2000 the rules no
longer work for public folders. This is what i do to set it up: I go to the
public folder that i want to forward the messages and go to properties.
Then click the tab administration, then there is a tab called folder
assistant. In this section you can set up a rule to forward the message
based on content to a users mailbox. I set this up but it doesnt work, does
anyone know why.

Subject: Public folder rules problem

Hi,

We are facing a problem with creating rule on a Public folder by using
the Folder assistant.

We archive the mails sent to a mailing list in a public folder by making
the public folder member of the distribution list. We have set a rule on
the public folder by using Folder Assistant, the rule forwards the mails
(mails as attachment) that are coming from a specific user (from an
external
domain) to the mailing list addressed in the 'To' or 'Cc' to a member in
our site and another associate in an external domain. The mail is auto
forwarded to the member in our site without any problems but the mail
does not reach the external domain.

We checked the logs on the exchange server and found that the folder
does not even trying to forward the mail to the external domain, there
is no trace of this mail in the log. We have also unchecked the disable
automatic replies to the internet in the advanced options of IMS,
Internet options.

We are looking at the other issues (relay not being allowed), but what
is surprising is that the mail does not even reach the mail gateway
(there is no log of this mail coming in the gateway logs), Exchange just
drops in thin air.

Has anyone faced similar problem? any solutions or pointers would be
very much appreciated.

Thanks
Chandrasekhar Varma.

RE: Public folder rules question

2002-01-31 Thread Couch, Nate

Where I have seen this is when the text you are searching for is too long or
more accurately contains too many words. Try shortening the string search
to less than five words and you should be good to go.

Hello.

We have a public folder that needs to have a rule which says take any
message with the text '*whatever*' and forward it to another address. If I
set up the rule to include a condition that says from so-and-so or if I
say forward any message to this address the rule works. However, if I
only specify the contains-specified-text condition, the rule does not fire
and the message does not get forwarded. Has anyone seen this?

Nate,
Thanks for the reply. The search string is only '*research-q*'. Isn't this
only one word? I didn't think that the matching algorithm for the rules
interpreted the '*' as a wildcard. Am I wrong?

RE: Public Folder Rules

2001-09-04 Thread Ken . Powell

I do it all of the time. In fact, that is how I sub this list. All messages
are sent to a central address and then forwarded using Folder Assistant with
message intact to the appropriate PF as well as the appropriate PF that
serves as an archive. You need to publish the PF to the GAL so that you can
choose it under Folder Assistant.

Hi all,

I have configured a Public Folder to receive email directly (through its
SMTP address). This works fine for most of the incoming mail but some -
with specific words in the subject - need to go into another folder.

Originally, the mail used to be delivered to a users mailbox and a client
rule applied to split the mail up and forward to two public folders.

Is there a way of creating a similar rule but just for the Public Folder ?

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim
