If Outlook 2002:
To remove the link between Outlook 2002 and MSN Messenger
perform the following steps:
   1. Start Outlook.
   2. From the Tools menu, select Options.
   3. Select the Other tab.
   4. Clear the Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook
check box in the Instant Messaging section, then click OK.
   5. Close and restart Outlook for the change to take effect.

 response times from the client to the server where the mailbox is on.
