E2k7 and Domain controllers

2008-06-02 Thread Travis Krampy

HI,

I understand that if you want to deploy Exchange 2007, you need at least a
Windows 2003 SP1 DC.

Could a Windows 2000 DC coexist in an Exchange 2007 environment with the
W2k3 DC?

If the Windows 2k3 DC would happen to go down, but the Windows 2000 DC is
still up and functioning, would Exchange 2007 continue to function or would
logging onto email halt?

Thanks

Travis

RE: Export-mailbox cmdlet curiosity

2008-06-02 Thread Miller Bonnie L .
Nope-that is the x64 2007 server. I am trying to run on the 32-bit client.
\Program Files\Exchange Server\bin is in the path. Do I need to load the 2003
tools on a wks instead and path to that?

BTW-tried restamping permissions on one account with the error. I get a
message that the ACL is already set and it errors out in the same place.
What's interesting is that what ends up moved in the pst before it quits is all
the stuff from the user's dumpster. That might explain all the ones I have
with dumpster stuff-going to have to go see if these are all mailboxes where it
had the error.

I'm attaching the previous (recent) thread below as I am getting the same error
codes with export-mailbox that Michael got, but using a different command set.
Does anyone (Michael B =] ) have any links to the known/documented bugs
right now in the command?

Here's the deal-Last Friday, we had an e-mail sent that originated from an
internal user with a .htm attachment that pointed off to a major news site-the
.htm file itself was not bad and didn't trigger any alerts. But, when people
went to the site, and then clicked on some pictures related to the news
article, something tried to infect their machines (our net admin says it's one
of these newest flash-related zombie attacks-he was getting the firewall log
info that we traced back to people opening this e-mail). We've confirmed that
infections/etc didn't happen because firewalls stopped it, but we wanted to rip
these messages out of our store to make sure nobody goes back there again using
the sent links.

So, I was experimenting with export-mailbox, which I've successfully used to
mass export psts for archiving mailboxes before deleting accounts-I've not done
anything more complicated with it yet though. What we wanted was to pull all
messages that included the phrase used in the subject line, and to remove those
from the store. The account I'm using has permissions to all mailboxes (added
via add-mailboxpermission), and here is an example of the command I used from a
my 32 bit workstation w/Outlook 2003 SP2 on it (I've used it from there
before). I don't even know if all of the options I have listed are correct, so
please critique if something looks wrong.

get-mailbox -OrganizationalUnit "domain.name" -resultsize unlimited |
export-Mailbox -PSTFolderPath \\computername\PSTExport$ -SubjectKeywords "To
Social Study Teachersincredible discovery in Brazil. Very interesting."
-BadItemLimit 2 -DeleteAssociatedMessages -DeleteContent -ReportFile
C:\2008-05-30ExportReport.xml

The command appeared to work correctly when used against my test accounts in
single instances. During the main run, it also worked fine on many accounts
where no errors were reported in the log file. But, for the accounts with the
errors, nothing happened, and these accounts also won't complete if I do an
individual run. I know which users got the original message, and a sampling
shows that for some the cmdlet worked fine and for others it did nothing, going
along with where the error messages appeared in the logs. Also, when opening
up the resulting PST files, there were many unrelated messages copied in, but
not pulled from the store (thank goodness). I also got items from the
dumpster, which according to the command help, should not happen when using the
PSTFolderPath Parameter. I'm curious as to how those were found to be a match.

I did consider trying exmerge, and got far enough to re-download the tools and
try to run exmerge.exe. When I try to run it, I get a window that says
"Exmerge.exe - Entry Point not found" "The procedure entry point free could not
be located in the dynamic link library EXCHMEM.dll". I forget... do I have to
run this from a machine with Exchange 2003 tools installed? I tried copying
the exchmem.dll file from the exmerge download into the same dir, but after
that I get an error about the Exchange 5.5 program not being installed.

This is no longer urgent, I'm just looking for ideas/answers for future
reference and continued testing. Any ideas welcome. I'm going to play with
permissions a bit more (resetting them again) as many on google seem to think
that is the key.

Thanks,
Bonnie

There are a number of issues with export-mailbox and import-mailbox
parameter processing. They have been bugged.

One could potentially presume that at some point those bugs will be
addressed.

Until then, exmerge still works just fine (run it on a workstation, not
on
the Exchange server) and so does Outlook.

Just as well. The poor girl is lonesome already. She obviously doesn't
realize marrying an Exchange administrator isn't going to help much.

I think I found the other part!

Hi, my gentleman

I am looking for a man. I want to get married and to live happily.
Life is passing by and I am looking at it like from the window of a moving
train... I feel lonely in my heart... this loneliness is causing pain to
me... I know only one remedy - it's love... love that only a man can give to
a woman...
What about me? I am good looking, kind, attentive, caring... maybe you'll
ask why I am lonely then?... I'll tell you! My life was hard here, in my
country, I am disappointed with men here and with life in this country... I
feel my second half is not here... Maybe it's you?
If you wish to get to know me...

RE: Routing email down an MPLS connection

2008-06-02 Thread Peter Johnson
Simply create a new SMTP Connector limited to the destination address
space e.g. @companyb.com and use the IP address of the remote server in
the destination server field. If you do use the IP address remember to
put the address in square brackets.

Subject: Routing email down an MPLS connection

Hi

Our Company has recently merged with another company and we are now
connected to that company via an MPLS connection.

Both companies are running Exchange 2003 SP2. We would like email for
the company we have merged with to de delivered down the MPLS link and
not out via the internet.

How is this best achieved? Is it via a new SMTP Virtual Server, SMTP
Connector or both?

Any help in configuring this would be appreciated.

Regards.

It sounds like you just need a new connector, with an address space of
the other company's email domain(s), and the smarthost set to their
Exchange server.

Exchange 5.5 Migration to E2K3

2008-06-02 Thread Peter Johnson
Hi Gents

I've been tasked with assisting someone with a 5.5 to 2003 migration and
since it's absolutely ages since I've done one I thought I check with
the list for a brain refresh on the process.

The environment is as follows:

NT4 Domain

4 Exchange 5.5 SP4 servers in a single site.

A two domain AD Forest with both domains in native mode.

There is a 2 way trust between the target domain and the NT4 domain.

The forestprep has already been done and so has the domain prep etc.

The users accounts have already been migrated, using ADMT V3 to the
target domain so all that remains was to the move the mailboxes.

This is my plan.

1.)Install the ADC from the Exchange 2003 SP2 CD.

2.)Create a non-primary connection agreement between AD and Exchange
5.5. This is the bit that concerns me as I don't want the ADC create new
User accounts in AD I simply want to populate the Exchange properties of
the already moved accounts.

3.)Install 1st Exchange server into site.

4.)Create a few mailboxes on the E2K3 side and test bidirectional
e-mail functionality

5.)Migrate a few users across and test the e-mail delivery etc

6.)Replicate PF's

7.)Install a FE box for OWA.

This is just a high level process. Does anyone have anything I should
watch out for around the ADC etc?

Regards

Peter Johnson
