Exchange 2007 Transport Rules question

2009-09-11 Thread Kretche, Peter
Is there a limit to the number of items a rule can test for? For example, if
I'm creating a rule when the Subject field or the body of the message contains
specific text patterns, how many text patters can I check for?

If you know in advance, users can do this themselves:

Delegator does Outlook -> Tools -> Options -> Delegates

Delegate does Outlook -> File -> Open -> Other user's folder

Train the users on the above and never worry about this crap yourself again.

The delegator can also set permissions on folders using Properties,
Permissions tab, as someone else already mentioned.

If it's an after-the-fact SNAFU, then an Exchange admin can go into
Active Directory Lusers and Confusers, enable advanced features, find
the user you want to open up, open Properties, go to Exchange Advanced
tab, click Mailbox rights, and grant the other user(s) "Full Mailbox
Access".

If user has FMA that user can also add the mailbox as a secondary
mailbox to their MAPI profile. Tools -> Accounts -> Change -> More
button -> Advanced tab. Mailbox then appears in the folder list along
with regular mailbox.

You can grant Full Mailbox access.

Then if, EX2007, use OWA 2007 and open it up. Or EX200x just mount the mailbox
in OLK.

If they need to reply as the user, you'll have to grant Send-As rights as well.

Ran into the forced encryption also after upgrading to 3.1. I have an eval
iPhone 3G, apparently the 3GS is in demand so they had to send me just a reg 3G.

It was interesting after the installation receiving the message encryption
couldn't be enforced, so ActiveSync would be disabled. If anything, it will
help it's case in being approved at my office.

Ah well, I'll respond to my own post since everyone else seems to be ignoring
me. :)

It took two steps to resolve this problem.

1) Install Exchange 2007SP1 RU9... This decreased the incidence of the
issue from ~50% to maybe 20% of messages exhibiting the error.

2) Installed iPhone OS firmware update 3.1 (released 2009.09.09). Since
installing the update, I have not had one occurrence of the "This message has
not been downloaded from the server" on either 3GS iPhones we have in service.

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to try the iPhone updated firmware prior
to installing RU9, so I don't know if the new iPhone firmware itself would've
fixed the problem.

As an aside: The iPhone 3.1 firmware is the first firmware that actually
supports the forced activesync data store encryption option (Require encryption
on the device). The pre-GS model iPhones do not support this at all! If you
install firmware 3.1 on a pre-GS model iPhone, and you also have forced
encryption enabled in your Exchange activesync policy, syncing will break for
the pre-GS series of iPhones.

Got an interesting problem here, first the Exchange Side... Exch 2k7, SP1,
Rollup 6... Publishing Activesync (and OWA) through an ISA server (2006 SP1,
etc)... We've been using Activesync with Windows Mobile (5 & 6) phones for
years without issue. I've also got about 4-5 iPhone 3G users who don't appear
to have issues...

However, I'm adding the first 3GS phones (OS v3.01) to the bunch The
phones will connect to Activesync OK, download the full mail folder list,
contents of the Inbox (past x days, doesn't seem to matter), Calendar and
Contact items without error... However, when opening some mail item, I will
get an error on the phone that states: "This message has not been downloaded
from the server" ... At the bottom of the message is a button "Download
remaining 0 bytes"... The remaining byte count is always zero... Tapping the
button yields a screen refresh, but no change in the error message.

At this point, the occurrence of the issue is random. Message size and type do
not seem to matter. I've had success with both plain text and HTML messages,
and failure with both HTML and plain text messages. Some messages with
attachments came through fine, and I can read the attachments without issue
while others just come up with the "This message has not..." error... Even a
simple one line, plain text message (sent from the Iphone itself, back to my
own mail account) elicited the error; even though I could see the whole text of
the message within the message list preview!

The only other instances I've been able to find of this error with Google are
either with IMAP as the protocol (where the issues was fixed in Exch Rollup 3),
or there was no resolution when Activesync was mentioned.

I've looked through the IIS logs, and don't see anything out of the
ordinary I've connected the iPhone to our internal WLAN and bypassed the
ISA firewall.. Still the same results. I've also tried with two different
iPhone 3GS's and two different Exchange accounts.. Same issues on both phones
and with both accounts.

I've contacted Apple, and they claim it's a Microsoft issue... And although I
haven't contacted Microsoft yet, they'll probably claim it's an Apple issue...
Before I do contact Microsoft, does anyone have any suggestions of settings on
the Exchange side I may want / need to look at? Anyone else run into this
problem?

I agree, why not just include those 4 files in the DPM install? Since
they need to be the same 32/64 bit as the server, it would have made
perfect sense to me.

Guess that's why I don't work for MS.

Peter.

I would qualify that first statement, in that, you need the version off
the exchange server, IF the exchange and DPM are running the same os.

I had just the opposite setup. 32bit exchange and 64bit DPM. Still
wouldn't run.

Got the 64bit files from a virtual EX07 test box and so far it is
working.

So basically, the eseutil.exe and ese.dll should come from an exchange
server os that matches the DPM server os.

How hard would it have been for MS to state this in the docs or error
messages?
