[1] it's part of the mailbox, so it's part of the OST that is synced locally.

[2] "Suggested Contacts"

[3] because an lEDN is the "real" name of a contact.

Subject: Outlook 2010 questions

A couple of questions:

1. I've read that the outlook 2010 autocomplete cache is stored server side.
If this is true does/should switching from cached <-> noncached mode make any
changes to the cache entries or do you use a local .nk2 in cached mode?

2. Is there a way to dump the addresses out from the server side cache so you
can see them?

3. Some users have cached entries to visible mail contact objects. If the
contact object disappears (ex. mail migration...a mailbox might be created and
a contact that pointed to the external system deleted), the cached entries
create lots of bouncing messages. You can of course fix this issue by throwing
the exchange legacy address of the contact onto the mailbox as an x500 address.
But the question remains in the back of my mind...was the outlook cache really
storing the contact as a legacy address, and if so..WHY?

thanks

Kevin

I have a single exchange 2010 mailbox server with hub and transport on another
box.

Over the weekend a bunch of mailboxes were migrated that filled up the logs,
I've freed up some space but I want to enable circular logging to finish the
migrations.

When I run Set-MailboxDatabase -CircularloggingEnabled:$true

It says it won't take effect until the DB is unmounted and remounted.

That doesn't help much.

I've tried just running a full backup with commvault but its been running over
10 hours with little visible activity.

Do I need to unmounts and remount for circular logging to start?

Thanks,jb

RE: TMG and Blackberries

2012-02-13 Thread John Cook
I feel your pain. Sometimes I have to really dumb it down or give them a visual
to get my point across here at $Dayjob. I see you posed a similar Q elsewhere
back in Dec so maybe you just need to impress upon them that 6 weeks later
you're no closer than you were and this could have already been fixed by simply
moving to BESX. The time you've wasted on trying to fix something that several
far more knowledgeable say is not feasible far exceeds the time the BESX path
takes to implement. Just like a workstation being taken over with a virus,
sometimes just rebuilding is a much better alternative - sometimes you can't
always come to an answer as to why it doesn't work and your job is to get these
people back online, not figure out the shortcomings of BIS on E2010.

Its sad that mgmt won't look at the free besx. Free as far as the Blackberry

I'm desperate.
MS support seems to be at a dead end and I've got 113 BB users to migrate, but
they only work when their mailboxes are 2003 BE servers.

We have 10,000 other mailboxes migrated and have no problems with iOS, Android,

TMG support people say everything is setup fine.
Exchange support says Exchange is setup fine.

From the BB, we can access OWA in the BB browser fine, but BIS will not setup
correctly.

Help! :)

Well, Rob's reply has got it spot on (thanks Rob).

But, to clarify, I was looking for a setting that would automatically delete
the log files if the system found itself unable to write new ones because the
disk was too full.

Essentially, like a Windows Event Log that would overwrite old logs to keep the
log at a fixed size.

Hi all,

Does anyone have a trick to getting a CAS to delete the oldest IMAP4 log files

find that as soon as the disk fills, logging stops and an error is written to

Will I need to script a solution?

How do I use the default windows backup to get it to clear the exchange logs?

Subject: exchange logs during mailbox migration

I have a single exchange 2010 mailbox server with hub and transport on another
box.

Over the weekend a bunch of mailboxes were migrated that filled up the logs,
I've freed up some space but I want to enable circular logging to finish the
migrations.

When I run Set-MailboxDatabase -CircularloggingEnabled:$true

It says it won't take effect until the DB is unmounted and remounted.

That doesn't help much.

I've tried just running a full backup with commvault but its been running over
10 hours with little visible activity.

Do I need to unmounts and remount for circular logging to start?

Thanks,jb

RE: IMAP4 logging - delete oldest log files

2012-02-13 Thread Sobey, Richard A
Well, Rob's reply has got it spot on (thanks Rob).

But, to clarify, I was looking for a setting that would automatically delete
the log files if the system found itself unable to write new ones because the
disk was too full.

Essentially, like a Windows Event Log that would overwrite old logs to keep the
log at a fixed size.

Richard

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking for. Look at the options to
Set-ImapSettings and if that doesn't answer your question, please describe your
question a bit more.

Subject: IMAP4 logging - delete oldest log files

Hi all,

Does anyone have a trick to getting a CAS to delete the oldest IMAP4 log files
when the disk fills up? I'm only interested in a few days' worth of logs, but
find that as soon as the disk fills, logging stops and an error is written to
the event log.

Will I need to script a solution?

Cheers

RE: TMG and Blackberries

What does RIM support say?

Subject: TMG and Blackberries

Anyone using TMG 2010 (newer ISA) and having Blackberries access via BIS?
I'm desperate.
MS support seems to be at a dead end and I've got 113 BB users to migrate, but
they only work when their mailboxes are 2003 BE servers.
When their mailboxes are on 2010, we cannot get BIS access to work.
We have 10,000 other mailboxes migrated and have no problems with iOS, Android,
etc. They all work through TMG.

TMG support people say everything is setup fine.
Exchange support says Exchange is setup fine.

>From the BB, we can access OWA in the BB browser fine, but BIS will not setup
>correctly.

Help! :)

Thx in advance

I use this for cleanup up log files that don't take care of it themselves:

RE: Active Directory Split Permissions and Contacts in Exchange 2010

2012-02-13 Thread Michael B. Smith
You'll have to use ADSI, just like in Exchange 2003; just that you can do it in
PowerShell instead of vbscript.

Subject: Active Directory Split Permissions and Contacts in Exchange 2010

I'm trying to create a PowerShell script to create Contacts in our Active
Directory but because we use AD split permissions for Exchange, New-MailContact
is not available. For regular users with mailboxes, I use a combination of
New-ADUser and Enable-Mailbox. Currently I create the contact with the ADUAC
snap in and then mail enable with Enable-MailContact in PowerShell. Does
anybody know a way of creating the contact in PowerShell without using
New-MailContact?
Thanks,
