RE: Disable OWA on Exchange 2003

2011-07-26 Thread Chris Boller
Hi Bao,

If you disable http on all your exchange servers then be aware you might cause
problems during co-existince if/when you upgrade to 2010. The availability
service will attempt to do http lookups for free/busy information. I found
that out the hard way where the IUSR.. account had been removed from the
virtual server so non admins couldn't use OWA.

action affect other exchange services?

Actually looking at the code line from my post:

i see that loadgen tries to hit an old cas array DNS record (cas.lab.local was
the name of a casarray i had setup but removed), so why?

If i run

2011-02-28 Thread Chris Boller
Hi,

You only need to specify the target database in the new-moverequest command

get-mailbox blah | new-moverequest -targetdatabase My Database Name (telstar)

if in doubt do a
get-mailboxdatabase -IncludePreExchange2010 | ft -a

to get the exact db name that you need

the rules were larger than 32KB and suggested to use the -IgnoreRuleLimitErrors

it's griping that the target database is not a valid value for the identity.

The command line is:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32'scvl.com/Enterprise/Corporate/Administrators/Quest,
 Jonny' | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase 'TELSTAR\First Storage Group\Mailbo

Telstar is the Exchange 2003 server. Ideas please?

RE: Wll this work with 2010?

2011-02-16 Thread Chris Boller
Hi,

get-activesyncdevicestatistics should work the same but you might want to
consider

1) get-mailbox - for 1000 mailboxes you will need to include -resultsize
unlimited
2) the select after the get-mailbox tells it to process alias. If you
have two mailboxes with the same alias this won't return any results, consider
using userprincipalname or some other unique field(*)
3) some error traps around particularly around the
get-activesyncdevicestatistics depending on the size of your estate

and change the exchange 2007 to exchange 2010 in the write-output :)

According to MS...The first routing group connector between Exchange 2010 and
Exchange 2003 is created and configured during installation of the first Hub
Transport server role in an existing Exchange organization. Perform this
procedure if you have planned your routing topology and decided to create
additional connectors between Exchange versions.

I've got both the Exchange 2003 and 2010 servers sending mail out to the
internet...but I can not seem to get mail flowing between the two servers. I
am not getting outside mail flowing into the 2010 box yet either, but that is
due to my firewall rules...which I will change when mail is flowing between the
two servers.

I have the two hub transport receive connectors (client and default) that were
automatically created as well as the send connector that I manually created for
outbound email.

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi,

Are you using sidhistory to log onto the mailbox? If so there's a reg key you
need to put on the Public Folder servers so it knows which one to download.
Ones that aren't experiencing problems may have a disabled source account and
the Assoc-ext-account set, i.e. not using sidhistory.

We have one user that when he tries to do a send and receive, gets an object
could not be found 0x8004010F error. It seems to be happening when he is
downloading the offline address book. This is the only user it's happening to
and it happens when he is logged in to another workstation. His mailbox, and
the majority of our other mailboxes, are still on our Exchange 2003 server
(we're in the middle of a migration). The OAB is residing on the Exchange 2010
server. I looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905813 and the Default
Offline Address List is the only one showing. Plus, if that was the problem
wouldn't everyone be seeing this? Thoughts?

Subject: 2010 DAG question

My understanding is that to implement mailbox resiliency in Exchange 2010,
you must have the Enterprise edition of the OS on each server in the DAG. When
I run Dell's Exchange 2010 advisory tool at
http://advisors.dell.com/advisorweb/Advisor.aspx?advisor=b6372fc5-7556-4340-8328-b8a88e2e64b2-001ebc;4c=usl=encs=g_5,
it indicates that a solution for my size org (tiny at ~50 users) should use
Windows 2008 Standard x64 Edition. This despite indicating that a DAG is
desired.

The tool is just wrong, right?

Thanks,

Hi,

It's an AD attibute (Legacy Exchange Distinguished Name from the 5.5 days) so
you need to dump it out if it's a considerable number of users or use adsiedit
if it's one or two

everyone should have csvde so something like

CSVDE -f fileout.csv -r ((objectcategory=person)(mail=*)) -l
mail,legacyexchangedn -d cn=users,dc=domain,dc=com

will dump out all the people within a certain OU and limit it to mail and
legacyexchagnedn

or you can use adfind (excellent tool from joeware.net) or ldifde

RE: Added SMTP address to Exchange and I am getting an error trying to send

2010-06-11 Thread Chris Boller
Hi,

Selecting the object to send from via Outlook is at the AD object level not
address, so you can create another mailbox with this address, assign the
permissions to send as and forward all mail onto the original so that when the
person replies it will come back to you (assuming it's not a group/resource
mailbox), e.g. by setting alternate delivery on the new mailbox but a bit of a
bodge...

ISTR Outlook by default does not allow this behavior.

You can use a different mail client (outlook express, for one) to be able to
choose your “from” address or look for a 3rd party add-in that will allow this.
I seem to recall (going way back now) that Slipstick had some options listed
for this behavior.

I added the following address:
dav...@indianamembersinsurance.commailto:dav...@indianamembersinsurance.com
to my User account in AD.
I try to send using the FROM: button in Outlook and It keeps telling me I
don’t have permission. I don’t understand why this is an issue?
Is it a Receipient Policy in Exchange 2003 that I have missed??

I guess you could do the same with a DL as well and send-as that and have you
as the only member, but again still bodgy :)

RE: Outlook rule for forwarded mail

2010-06-03 Thread Chris Boller
it'd be a good reminder on how good the car is! this morning I was thinking how
nice it'd be to spend 1 hr 39 on the trains instead of 2 hrs driving but then I
have aircon and my own seat so hmm - I think I've blocked the summer travel out
of my memory

So what you're saying is that the recipient of the forwarded mails can't create
a rule that all mail received from the resigned employee go into a designated
folder?

I have that working for emails that come in regularly for certain contacts.
Have you added the former employee's email address as a contact? I would assume
since they've resigned, the email address is hidden in the GAL?

In the from people or distribution list, select the resigned user name so
whatever mails sent to him will move to that folder.

You should be able to:

Check messages when they arrive
From people or distribution list, then specify from which person
Move to specified folder

Thanks Kathleen.
I cannot find a condition which relates to forwarded mail. Can you suggest a
condition on which I can build up the rule?

Hi,
One of our user resigned. I am forwarding his mail to his colleague. How can
the colleague create a rule to segregate those mail from the resigned user to a
folder in his folder?
Any ideas?
