OWA Problem

2001-09-24 Thread David Rodriguez

Hi, Last Friday one of our techs main some lockdown changes to our IIS5
server which happens to have Ex2000 on it, since he made the changes OWA
doesn't display anything in the Inbox, or folders etc etc, it logs in
correctly and gets to the OWA page but that's about it.
Server is Win2000 SP2 Ex2000 SP1
Changes made were: delete IIS samples directory
   Stopped Default FTP site
   Stopped Administration site
This is all that I was told however I think there could be some more
done, but Im not sure, could be problems with the metabase ??? Any ideas
??

One of the basic things it does is take away the ability to run scripts.
SP2 and the IIS cumulative should be all that is needed on an EX2000
server.
Be sure to tell the tech thank you.

From the W2K news letter:

MS IIS Lockdown Tool Seems To Quarrel With Exchange 2000

An Exchange Guru in Microsoft's Techical team (PSS) told some one IIS
lockdown tool should not be used on an Exchange 2000 Server. It seems
they looked a bit more in detail what the lockdown tool did, and found
that because of the fact E2K relies on IIS 5, the tool is disrupting
normal E2K behavior. I'm still waiting for a confirmation by MS. At
least you're warned for the possibility of a potential problem here.
Other apps relying on IIS might be affected as well.

Not at all, if he ran the lockdown only once, there is a one level undo
feature. But, since e2k relies on IIS, I don't think you can just
uninstall IIS to reset the metabase back new, and reinstall owa like
e55, but I bet the guys at PSS can walk you through fixing to save you
the headache!
Its worth a call, if they say they cant help, they wont charge you I
don't think...

This is actually a well known issue
in the Security Community. If you are running OWA on a IIS Server that is on
the same machine as the Exchange Server, IIS runs its own SMTP Relay. This is
very easy to fix. Simply uninstall the SMTP Service on your IIS Box. It is
always good practice to keep Servers that are dedicated to different Services
separate from each other.

I hope this helps,

I know I've read a tread that says two events in event viewer that lets
you know if it is enterprize or Standard. I've tried searching the
archives but could not find it. Can anyone help. Exchange 5.5 SP4 NT4
SP6.

Thanks,

Miguel
