I have had a couple users get the following message when trying to attach
a file using Outlooks attachment icon.

Out of system resources-Close some windows or programs and try again.

I have looked at permissions to the files and all are good. The only
thing they can do to get around it is to copy and paste the file into the
email.

Thanks in advance,

RE: Hidden accounts still getting mail?

2002-01-08 Thread JENSEN, TIMOTHY C (AIT)

Here is what I do to disable a mailbox:

1) Remove NT account and any other accounts on permissions tab
2) Remove all SMTP addresses
3) Remove mailbox from all DL's
4) Hide from address book
5) Set delivery restrictions on mailbox to only allow an admin mailbox to
send to it.

Hope this helps.

The NT account is deleted, I wasn't aware that exchange accounts could be
disabled - how is this done? All email addresses have been deleted. I've
since found out that it's only company-wide mails from d-lists that are
arriving there.

Here's a weird one

We have a policy here that when a user leaves, the mailbox is hidden and all
mail addresses deleted for 30 days before the box itself is deleted. I've
just had a call from one user, who has delegate access to a users mailbox.
The user left at the beginning of December, and all mail addresses were
deleted around the 10th. This user is reporting that the mailbox is still
receiving mail - a clear month after all email addresses were deleted! Can
anyone give any input as to how an account with no associated addresses can
still receive mail?

Thanks all

RE: Outlook 2000 Hanging

2002-01-07 Thread JENSEN, TIMOTHY C (AIT)

A suggestion to add to William's, is to not configure any Personal Folder
service in the newly created MAPI profile. Just try and get the user into
Exchange first. If it works then you know then problem lies with the .pst
or another service other than Exchange Server. My experience has been that
my lovely users think of Personal Folders as dumping grounds. Over time I
have had users with .pst files in excess of 1.5GB and it would take Outlook
30-45mins to come up and sometimes not at all.

Happy New Year to all!

I have 2 clients who just started having the following issues:

Client - Win2K SP2- Outlook 2000
Server- Win2K - Exchange 5.5 SP4

1. Outlook will hang within 15 minutes of launching, taking ~100% CPU Usage.
Rendering the machine unusable until the process is killed.

2. Outlook will hang immediately when launched and they try to access their
Calendar. Same hanging as above.

Could this be a corrupt Inbox or Calendar? How would I go about fixing it,
aside from re-creating their entire mailbox?

I have tried the Inbox repair tool, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

Help is greatly appreciated!

RE: Exchange 5.5 Emergency

2002-01-03 Thread JENSEN, TIMOTHY C (AIT)

Chris,
If you are only worried about getting the mailbox content just use your D.R.
server (if ya have one) and restore only the IS. The server name will be
different which is OK. I think Backup Exec only cares about identical server
names when you restore the Dir.edb. After the restore, start the IS and
then go to the Server and run the Consistency Adjuster and select All
Inconsistencies. That should get your mailboxes into the directory. After
that I would run Exmerge and get all the contents exported to .psts.

We had an exchange 5.5 SP3 server that got moved to a new domain and also
had it's name changed. My users were added to there existing 5.5 SP3
server. The problem is that the admin didn't grab my users existing
mailboxes before he renamed and switched the domain. I have a back up of
the exchange information store and directory, but when I try to restore it,
backup exec gives me an error that it has to restore it to the original
server. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Microsoft Exchange Move Server Wizard

2001-12-20 Thread JENSEN, TIMOTHY C (AIT)
Title: Microsoft Exchange Move Server Wizard

FWIW-
I have done a
number of MSW's and Exmerge migrations andI can't tell you which one is better. My decision is usually
dependent on other factors:
*not
listed in order of importance and certainly not complete*

1)
What isthetimeline for getting to acommon Org? A short
timeline would push the MSW option or a 3rd party util (Bindview, NetIQ, or
Kevin Snook's migration utility??). An open timeline gives you Exmerge as a
viable choice.
2)
The size and complexity of Exchange deployments often drives you towards
onemethod over the other. IE 1 org multiple sites vs. 1 org 1 site.

3) MSW is faster than Exmerge. I have done a
complete migration of one site(~900 mailboxes) to another site in a different
Org in just under 3hours. Not including the rebuild ofits
directory.
4) Exmerge and other 3rd party utilities
allow for a "controlled" migration plan.
5)
MSW does not export mailbox contents to temp .pst's so there is less of a need
for large amounts of free disk space.

These
are just a few off the top of my head and others on the list will probably chime
in too. As always a good suggestion is to read the whitepaperson
these utilities. They do a fairly good job on describing what their
strengths and weaknesses are.

RE: Test your Exchange Knowledge(help)

Didn't you pose this same question a week or two ago?? The difference in
your original question was that your Sendmail and Exchange deployments were
sharing the same domain name for mailbox addressing. Is that still true?
If so, you will probably need to customize your Sendmail environment because
you are using the same domain name for both Exchange mailboxes and Sendmail
mailboxes. Try looking at either changing the site addressing for your
Exchange deployment or try looking at using the virtuser table feature in
Sendmail www.sendmail.org .

You need to configure the SMTP connector to route all mail to the Sendmail
host. You then need to configure the Sendmail host to route all of the mail

Of course, I haven't done this with E2K yet, but I have done it and am doing

We are upgrading the hardware on our Exchange server, and will probably go
the route of two Exchange servers online in the same site, move mailboxes
one workgroup at a time and then take the old server offline. In my
testing, however, I have run across something puzzling, which I cannot seem
to run down in Technet or on the MS website. (Perhaps I'm just not asking
the right question).

When I move a mailbox from one server to another, and then compare the
resources, I get some pretty startling differences in numbers (although not
in mailbox size) - yet, I cannot seem to find anything actually missing...

For example:

OLD SERVER:
Total K: 36,380
Total No. of Items: 3,254
Total No. of Associated Items: 73

NEW SERVER:
Total K: 36,280
Total No. of Items: 571
Total No. of Associated Items: 21

What am I losing? I can't seem to find anything obvious? Does anyone know,
or can you point me in the right direction to figure it out?
