Domain/UserID for OWA Logon question

2002-08-02 Thread Kevin Fricke

In a single domain/single Exchange site with OWA in the same domain but
set up as a front end server on it's own box, users must enter
domain/userID to get into OWA.

Is there a way to force it to always assume a default domain name?

Weird one...truncated messages

2002-06-07 Thread Kevin Fricke

Messages are truncating for users when viewed through Outlook. So far, I
have had three users that report messages that just cut off in the middle.
I pull up the message, I see the whole thing. They pull it up, and it cuts
off in the same place each time. I have witnessed the behavior. It was
Outlook 98 for each of the first two instances. Not sure on the third yet.

The first two times, we simply replaced their PCs; it turned out that
their PCs were underpowered for what they did anyway. Now, a third case
has turned up and I do not think management is going to condone my
throwing a new PC at the problem everytime it crops up.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Re: Weird one...truncated messages

2002-06-07 Thread Kevin Fricke

OK, the common thread is Outlook 98 on Windows 98 with IE 5, and the
messages are all in rich text format.

If I open the message, it is all there, but if he opens it or forwards it,
it is truncated.

RE: Weird one...truncated messages

2002-06-07 Thread Kevin Fricke

Well, just put on your Carnak the Magnificent hat. grin

OK, this does not happen to all messages, but once a message appears
truncated, it is always truncated, whether they move it or reply to it.
They all use Outlook 98 on Windows 98 with IE 5. Messages are only from
other internal Exchange users so far with no attachments and it is the
body of the message that is truncated. Messages are viewable in Preview
pane, but are truncated there also. If a message was sent to multiple
users, the other users see the whole message. Messages do not truncate at
256 characters or anything simple like that. The sender can send
additional messages (of equal length) that are not affected, so it does
not seem to be related to the sender or the message length.

Replacing their PCs with one that has our latest image lets them view the
message properly. So I imagine that reimaging this person's PC will fix it
for him. But still looking for a cause. I see absolutely NOTHING on this
anywhere I've looked (Microsoft, Google, etc.). I also searched on here
and didn't find it. Maybe I didn't go back far enough.)

Like I said, a weird one...

I bit more info would be nice! Where are the messages from - Exchange users,
internet, other? Are they always from the same people or different? Are they
displayed properly in Preview Pane? Is it the body that's cut off or
 attachments (if any) as well.

Some of us are well qualified but we're not blooming mindreaders!

Distribution lists and Custom Attributes-HELP!

2002-04-08 Thread Kevin Fricke

In Exchange 2000, can you make membership in a distribution group
dependent on a Custom Attribute? So if I set up a group, everyone with
that Custom Attribute would automatically be in that group?

We used address book views in Exchange 5.5 in lieu of setting up any
distribution lists. Now, I want to avoid having to create and populate all
of those groups in AD.

Is there a better way to do this?

RE: Delivery Options

2002-04-08 Thread Kevin Fricke

It would stay in the sender's Sent Items folder. But that's about it. So
long as the user was on your system, you could get them back, even if they
were deleted.

RE: HELP!

2002-01-10 Thread Kevin Fricke

Yes, I have a point. Did not have the copy previous message check box on.
Here we go:

New E2K server in an existing 5.5 site. Server was wiped and reinstalled
after cleaning up AD and 5.5 best we could. New mailboxes on 2K CANNOT
send to 5.5 server. They can send outside via SMTP and they can receive.
EMail messages are returned almost immediately with an NDR and error code
290 appears in event viewer. Scoured Technet, nada. (There are no
duplicate X.400 addresses, this does not concern sending to Public
folders.)

We can move mailboxes from 5.5 to 2K fine and can create new mailboxes
fine.

Other symptoms:
A new eMail account created in 2K does not show up in the address list on
the 5.5 server. But, if typed in, the name resolves.

Help?!!!

Ok what are you trying to say here? DO you have a point?

HELP!

2002-01-04 Thread Kevin Fricke

New E2K server in an existing 5.5 site. Moved a mailbox from the 5.5
server over to the 2K server (no problems there). It can receive eMail
from, but not send eMail back to the 5.5 server. It can send outside just
fine. What's going on?

Other symptoms:
A new eMail account created in 2K does not show up in the address list on
the 5.5 server.

A directory replication entry called ADNAutoDRC was created on the 5.5
server that set the 2K server as the local bridgehead server. When 2K
server was shut down, 5.5 stopped functioning until we set it to use 5.5
server as the LBHS. Once 2K was turned back on, it created a second entry
in that folder, but now we can shut it down ok.

The 2K server shows up as a server in Exchange Administrator on the 5.5.
Everything looks good otherwise. I've spent several days on this and can't
find out why mail won't go. Any ideas? Is it a connector issue?

Any problems with this?

2001-12-03 Thread Kevin Fricke

To redo an Exchange 2000 Enterprise install where DR policy states it must
be installed to the C: drive, instead of the D: drive (news to me at the
time):

- shut down the Exchange server without uninstalling (mimicking a total
hardware failure)
-Clean up the server account in AD
-Wipe the hard drive of the server and reinstall everything from scratch,
using the original server name and IP.

Will this work?

Re: OWA logoff

2001-12-03 Thread Kevin Fricke

Another issue you might need to be aware of is that any attachments viewed
through OWA are d/l'ed to the local PC and stored in a temp directory. You
might want to advise users that view sensitive attachments through OWA on
a device such as that to clear the temp directory when finished, or, if
they can't, not to view attachments that way.

Anyone have problems with the DO NOT DELIVER BEFORE XXX option?

2001-08-31 Thread Kevin Fricke

In several test eMails I have sent, where the Do Not Deliver Before time
is set, there is a significant delay before the eMail is actually sent (2
to 3 days on average). The times are all set properly on servers and
workstations and all other mail is flowing fine. I was just wondering if
this is a problem with the product or if it is most likely a problem with
our system?
