Outlook 2007 won't quit

2008-05-30 Thread Larsen, Jon
I've installed outlook 2007 (as part of Office 2007 Enterprise) on
windows XP service pack 2 for two people in the last two days. When I
try to close outlook it just won't go away. It works fine otherwise. I
can minimize the outlook window, but I can't close or exit. I finally
have to kill it through task manager.

These are new installs on clean machines (formatted the drive during the
install). After the install I did all the latest Microsoft patches
through Microsoft update. I have not installed SP3.

I've done this install many times before and I've got other people using
the same config. It's only these two new installs that fail.
I've repaired the pst file and it says it is clean.

Any one seen this before?

Thanks.

Jon

Have you gone through the initial setup for Word or Excel? We have seen
this with Outlook and, as dumb as it sounds, setting your initials and
such when first opening Word has always fixed the issue for us. I am
assuming it is somehow tied to Word being the editor for Outlook now.

RE: Backup Solutions

2008-09-30 Thread Larsen, Jon
We've been talking about disaster recovery (e.g., what if our office
burns down) and what we need to do to be sure we have offsite backups.

We've considered two options: 1) digital vaulting using a service like
Vault Logix and 2) putting a backup device in our colo and backing up
to that location.

I like Vault Logix because it's a simple install on one central PC and
it's agentless. It also supports all the different variety of server
OS's we have (Windows, Linux, Solaris). Vault Logix uses the Asigra
software package which compresses and encrypts before sending it out.

We've also looked at EMC which bought Avamar. Their software is similar
to Asigra. EMC bundles it with one of their storage systems for a
turnkey solution.

Each solution is expensive. Vault Logix charges by the GBs stored.

Subject: Backup Solutions

Hello -

I am re-evaluating my backup options to replace my current tape solution
as it is rapidly running out of space. In my situation i am trying to
backup 150GB-200GB. Is everyone using tape still or have some made the
jump to disk-to-disk? Maybe using an off-site backup like iron
mountain? I am curious to here other people's solutions and what their
experiences have been or possible recommendations.

As always your input is much appreciated.

David

Yes, it says:

Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please

We look in message tracker and see it try and try to deliver and then finally
fail. But a new message to the same people will succeed.

RE: Your message did not...

2008-10-14 Thread Larsen, Jon
I've been doing some more digging.

The message actually stalls in the "messages awaiting directory lookup" queue.
When I track that message it shows this error:

SMTP: Message Scheduled to Retry Categorization.

This continues for 24 hours and then the message times out and sends out the
error message listed below.

If the user sends a new message to the same list it will go through while this
message is still retrying.

Has anyone found a Microsoft MIB for exchange 2003/2007?

Thanks.

No, we only have one server dedicated to exchange. And this last message that
wound up in the queue was for internal people only.

Do you have multiple outbound SMTP servers? If so maybe the IP address for one
is on a blacklist and the other is not.

Merry Christmas to all!

John, thank you for your service to our country and for us, its citizens.
Maybe we be truly grateful and may you be blessed there in Afghanistan.

To you who have offered me your expertise over the past year, I say “Thanks”.
This list is very special.

As Tiny Tim would say, “God bless us, everyone.”

Helio and Exchange Sync Issue

2008-02-22 Thread Larsen, Jon
We've been trying to get a helio phone to sync with our exchange server
(exchange 2003 with patches and windows 2000 with patches). It worked
once and then helio had the user update the phone for DST. After that
it didn't work. We've gone through their tech support and asked
Microsoft for help, but no success yet. We only see generic errors in
the log; nothing specific to point us somewhere. Anyone else have a
helio that works? Thanks.
