I've had good luck with MS assistance as well and it is worth the money.  Unfortunately MS was not able to help this time.  I don't think there is anything available to recover the database but I wanted to investigate it first before I gave up hope.  Hopefully a miracle will happen and someone will have a utility that might help.  They are running with a database from Nov. 3rd so they didn't lose everything, only the last 2 stinking months of e-mail, but that makes a big difference to management.

thanks,

todd

Yup...just went thru the scenerio described...my database went bad...only to
realize we were backing up the wrong info...spent 3-4 hours running all the
esutils with no luck...called MS support at 11:30pm (thinking there was no
way they could help me with no backups)...they had my Exchange up in 20
minutes...and worked to clean out the database thru the next day (I was so
so relieved..)...also taught me how to backup (correctly)...boy did I learn
a lot.  Best $249.00 I've ever spent...saved my ass and my job.

A client of ours has a corrupted database that we attempted to recover with
Microsoft with no luck.  I was wondering if anyone has any input on a 3rd
party utility that might assist us in recovering at least some of the mail?
I know restoring from backups would be the ideal solution but we don't have
that option, I know, I know, it's a long story but unfortunately we don't
have that option at this time.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

How is your outlook client set up in terms of mail delivery? Go to Tools,
Services and click on the delivery tab. Do you have Personal Folders or
Mailbox - Lastname, Firstname on the Deliver New mail to the following
location drop down menu?
It seems that you have Personal Folders since your manager can't find his
email. You should probably look at using the other delivery method since
your mail stays on the server. Think of backup issues etc...You might want
to look at offline folders for remote users.
For now, what you will have to do is copy the outlook.pst file to the
manager's laptop and have him to an import.

If you load the Windows-based RAID management software, you can perform this
battery "reconditioning" or whatever it is called, from within NT.  I have
done it on a few of my servers.  Works well.

Have you done the power cycle on the battery? This battery backs up the
cache on the PERC card. Losing power to the server with the write cache
turned on and no battery could corrupt data.

We see this message every 9 - 12 months on each controller. We run the
refurb on Saturday evening as performance drops with the cache disabled.

Thanks Rodney,

I realise among the possible selections of mail applications to import from does not include MS Outlook. The closest is Outlook Express.

However I am importing from Microsoft Outlook 98. Any  ideas?

Thanks.

An import will just add the emails from the .pst file. It won't overwrite
any existing mail.

Title: RE: Auto Name Checking.

Go to Tools->Options->Select Spelling Tab and select Edit. When opened you would find out that Names in the note pad opened are not checked because it is recognised in your dictionary so to speak.

You may add others names or words.

Hope this helps.

Outlook 98, Exchange 5.5 SP4, NT 4.0 SP6.  Does anybody know why some
names would autocheck when trying to send E-mail and why some names
would not? I've picked about 6 different names from the personal address
book and typed them in in the To... field.  3 of them automatically
checked the typed name for a match in the address list, which it found,
and three of them did not match anything in the address book, even
though it was spelled correctly.  I do have "automatic name checking"
selected in the advanced options.  I don't understand why it would find
some names and not others?

Thanks.

Subject: Email going directly to deleted items folder

Hello people,

We are having an issue where a specific users email is getting sent straight to the "deleted items" folder without ever appearing in the inbox. This does NOT happen very often maybe 1 in 90 emails. If I did not know any better I would say its a malformed rule. I checked the users rules, he has about 10, and none of them moves email to the delete items folder. It is spooky because there does not seem to be anything in common about the emails that get moved. So far he is the only one confirmed to have this issue but others may be effected and not even realize it.

We are running Win2K Advanced Server SP 2, Exchange 2000 SP 2, and Active Directory. All users are on Office/Outlook 2000.

Any ideas what might me going on here??

Totally stumped,
