RE: MS crop tool for PST files
we have the same problem here. 1. Separate into years (1999.pst, 2000.pst, 2001.pst) 2. archive old years to CD 3. put the old years .pst files to the hard drive some place where they can't find them and open them in mail folders and don't back them up to the file server..that way you can search the file server for .pst files and if one appears like 1999.pst you can just blow it away knowing that it's on their CDs in their drawer... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, 4 October 2001 8:32 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: MS crop tool for PST files On Wed, 3 Oct 2001, David N. RE: queue.bad
seems like no one's ansewring the original question just sending ppl to rooms.. NTBackup with the exchange .dll (which can be installed by just installing the exch admin prog) backs up the whole infostore and directory and works very nicely. it can't recover one mailbox at a time you have to have a recovery server. you shouldn't need to restore ever, archive old mailboxes to .pst and CD it, hide old mailboxes for a month or so, set deleted items retention to as much as possible (calc how much mail goes thru server etc etc before doing this or your drive will fill up, we set ours to 10 days thinking no probs, but got an extra 1.5gb roughly so maybe change it slowly over a period of time. try 5 days then 10 etc etc... NTBackup doesn't do brick level backups but brick level backups are bad according to Guru Ed crowely... www.swinc.com he also says pst are bad but i disagree cos .pst is good for archival onto CDs... anyway starting to rant.s -Original Message- From: Ratini Heidi - IL [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, 2 October 2001 10:58 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: queue.bad Does anyone use the native NTBACKUP utility on their EX 5.5 installations to backup their Exchange IS's online? RE: .Exchange IS and IMC stop 10x a day
typical microsnot they all do things differently. what we did was indeed deleting the IMC and recreating it... well not quite, but restarting the IMC with all the files renamed fixed the problem... my question is, where can i get this tool that logs into the IMC mailbox and removes the message? how can one hope that it won't happen again? last question. when will someone write program that sends mis formed messages to exchange servers and thus crashes the server??? dorks anybody want to mail me that IMC tool referred here, pls? thanks [EMAIL PROTECTED] M -Original Message- From: Don Ely [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, 17 August 2001 9:27 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: .Exchange IS and IMC stop 10x a day It's not that someone has figured out how to send misformatted messages so much as sometimes messages just get malformed mail headers that in turn wind up crashing the IS. The fix PSS gave you is a strange one though. I can't remember (GAWD, I HATE IT WHEN I CAN'T REMEMBER THINGS) the tools they gave me to fix the problem off hand, but the fix they gave you doesn't sound right. Their utilities they gave me actually allowed me to login to the IMC like a mailbox and remove the offending message, restart the IS and IMC and all was well. Took about 5 minutes to fix the problem. With the fix you got, you might was well have deleted and recreated the IMC... List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
