Line Too Long

2002-06-18 Thread Millar, Ken

Environment:

Exchange 5.5 SP4 on Windows NT SP6a
Client: Outlook 2000

Can someone tell me how to prevent these messages (see below) from occurring or to
correct them from the end users side. The errors are a result of a typical smtp email
sent from our organization to an outside address. We typically get about one of these
per day. I haven't been able to find anything in Technet.

Yes, I mean the exchange alias.

You mean the exchange alias? What is a MAPI address. MAPI is an access
protocol not an addressing scheme.

This may be a simple question.

Exchange 5.5 SP 4
Windows NT SP6

Could someone tell me how to export/extract a list of MAPI email
addresses from an exchange list of recipients. I see the SMTP, X400 etc.
but no MAPI. I would like to create a list in .csv or excel format.

Thanks,

Ken

RE: The case of the vanishing email

2002-03-11 Thread Millar, Ken

You may also want to check to see if the email has been sent "confidential" or
"private".

If the user is not the Primary Windows NT Account on the mailbox, they will not be
able to see the message in the folder. However the folder will be have the number of
unread messages in blue brackets beside it.

Check to see that the user doesn't have a filter on the inbox, this is the
most probable cause for disappearing e-mail.

Next check the receiving side to make sure that the background and
foreground text colors are not the same. White on white is very hard to
read. This would be in the OPTIONS -> Mail Formats ->Stationary and fonts
section -> FONTS button.

Does anyone have their dearstalker & pipe with them today?

I have a user who cannot send mail to a particular mailbox, or to be more
accurate he can send the mail and it goes it even seems to arrive at the
client (lil envelope in the system tray) but there is nothing in the users
folders. The message tracking tells me it's been delivered, there don't
seem to be any rules setup on the client to dump mail from this user.

Every other user can send to this person and receive from the guy whose mail
is getting lost.

Any Ideas?

RE: Can't create file

2002-03-06 Thread Millar, Ken

FYI

After some research and troubleshooting, I came across the following article(s) that
pertains at least to the problem we were having (although we are not running Terminal
Server). The "Temporary Internet Files" folder was missing from the end users local
profile.

PSS ID Number Q249793, Q268744

Ken

Their temporary file locations are "full". Clean out all (and I mean
ALL) temporary file locations in their logon profile.

This may be somewhat off topic. I would like to know if anyone has seen
this before. Microsoft gives an explanation in the following: Q181990
but I checked the permissions and it does not seem to apply here.

Environment: Exchange Server 5.5 SP4 running on NT4 Sp6a. Client:
Outlook 2000 on NT Workstation 4.0 SP5 or SP6a (we have some of each)

Client receives following error message while trying to open a
WordPerfect attachment from email.

"Can't create file: Right-click the folder you want to
create the file in, and then click Properties on the Shortcut menu to
check your permissions for the folder."

Resolution: Blowing away the roaming(local) profile(s) clears up the
problem temporarily.

Title: Disabling RR functionality

Try
this:

IMC Properties -
Internet Mail tab - Advanced Options - Disable Automatic Replies to the
Internet.

  Disabling RR functionality
My boss just asked me if
there is a way to disable Read Receipts from going through the IMC on our Exchange 5.5 server.
  Specifically if an external
e-mail comes in with a request for a Read Receipt, is there a way to suppress
the automatic response to this in Outlook or at the Exchange
server?
I know how to do it client
side if the client has the Internet Mail service installed. But none of our
workstations need this, so the feature is disabled. I have also looked at the Disable Automatic Replies to the
Internet feature on the IMC, and ours is checked. I would think this
  would suppress
the Read Receipt replies, but it doesn't.
  Any thoughts?

RE-apply Exchange SP(I'm assuming NT 4.0 sp6a was last). See
if change. If none, Try running the Exchange Optimizer (in -v mode) and look
for whitepaper that explains IMS thread settings to optimize is for an IMS
  server.
If no change: Next try to rebuild
server and this time, if possible, load WIN2K Server. Much more stable
  NOS.
The other question I would have is: What else is this server
doing? And what kind of server(brand) is it?? Is it on the WHCL? How many
  procs? memory? what speed proc?

  Any Suggestions?
  Scenario:
  - Twice in the last 30 days our IMC has stopped delivering
inbound mail (messages shown being held in temporary file location), outbound
  mail continues to be delivered
  - Not able to stop IMC (or any other Exchange services), only
way to fix (or so it appears) is to reboot server. -
L000.log is approx. 2.4gb in size (appear to have plenty of disk space on
drive) - various levels of logging enabled, including:
SMTP Protocol Log - medium - Messages showing up in
the queue "Inbound messages awaiting delivery"
Environment: Exchange Server 5.5 SP4 running on NT4
  Sp6a.
