With a company email account you don't *have* to use it for personal use, and unless you have particularly uncommon name, even the Googles of the world aren't going to be able to link it to your personal identity. S -Original Message- From: Steve Szabo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 11:49 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Problem with Outlook I was called in by another tech who had some problems with a new network that had just been installed. The server is SBS 2003 R2 with the included Exchange 2003, patched. The Outlook client is the one included with Office 2007 on XP Pro. All patches are reported to have been installed. About half of the workstation have a problem where outlook will open, and then, shortly thereafter freeze. I did not see it freeze until a message was opened. It never seems to register as unresponsive in Task Manager. The machines are running Symantec's End Point Security. Outlook behaves the same with it running or with it uninstalled. I did note that each time outlook started it would flash, for the briefest time, the same messages one would see on a fresh install, though they would normally stay up much longer on a first time use. The appearance is so brief it took several start-ups to understand what they were. I turned off cached mode--same thing. I removed the OST file and started in cached mode, and it seemed to take longer than normal for it to start receiving messages from the server and building the cache (35 MB on the machine I was working on). I created a new profile. I removed the account and then added it back again--same behavior in getting the messages and building the cache. A little more background information. The owner of the business had bought a server from a used equipment dealer next door, and it was set up and shortly thereafter crashed. A brand new server was purchased (which should have been the case to start, but, the urge to save money can be over-powering for the small guy) and the install was done on it, along with a restore of the Information Store. This was done after a repair to the old server failed to work properly. The workstations were rejoined to the domain. I am a bit fuzzy whether he actually tried to remove any from the original domain (of the same name) or not. Now, some of the machines suffer from the problem in the first paragraph. I asked about removing and installing the whole Office Suite again, and that had been tried, along with a repair prior to
