Subject: Exchange Server - Outlook Client Slowdown

I am hoping someone out there is having some of the same issues as we are
having and have come up with some solutions.  Any suggestions would be very
much appreciated.

Our current setup is;

- Single Server Exchange Server Enterprise 5.5 Sp4 running OWA
- Compaq Server Dual PII 450 Xeon Processors
- 5 hard drives - 3 10,000rpm 36.4 GB drives in RAID 5 (Databases)
            - 2 10,000rpm 9.1 GB drives in RAID 1   (Transaction
Logs)
- Server is running at 100mbps full duplex.
- Pub.edb = 150mb
- Priv.edb 18.5 GB (approx 40GB of free space)
- Circular Logging Turned off - Differential Arcserve Backup enabled
- 200 - 230 Users and 300 mailboxes

Description

For the past couple of weeks we have notice a perceptible slowdown in client
side response times on our exchange server.  The slowdown mainly happens at
peak times,(9-10am and 2-3pm) however we have noticed it with attachments
and at other times as well.  It sometimes can take 5-8 seconds to open an
e-mail with an attachment where we have been getting immediate response
before.  For scrolling through messages in Outlook we have also noticed a
slow down. Also - when copying an attachment from an e-mail to your local
machine,(right click and copy, then paste to desktop) this response time has
decrease dramatically.  Although these slowdowns do not stop us from working
on a daily basis we would like to get on top of this issue and do what we
need to do to keep our Exchange server speedy.

Any ideas or recommendations are appreciated.

Regards,

_

Ok... do you add that just to the Front-End server or to the back end servers as well.  I posted earlier today with this same problem.  I can authenticate to the front-end and it relays the info to the back-end... and when it tries to start loading the page... it prompts for authentication again... only this time it wont accept any kind of authentication.

Try this:  Domain Security Policy>Add Domain Users to "Logon Locally". User needs to have "logon locally rights" on the machine running OWA

I've been looking all over for any information on how to allow users access to OWA on a w2k sp2 x2k sp1 server. I would think the knowledgebase would have tons of material on this, but I haven't had any luck. Does anyone know of a specific kb article or another source that could help me with this? The immediate problem is that only members of Administrators can access it, otherwise you just get "Error: Access is Denied". I'm sure it's just a simple permission setting somewhere, but damned if I can find it. - Thanks in Advance, Randy.

I block *.scr too...so no it wouldn't make it through.

This is just a list I maintain in addition to blocking attachments.
Thought some ppl on this list might find it useful? I'm sure some shops
out there have more limitations than others on what they can and cannot
block.

So if I rename gone to lynch.scr it will get through?

Do you have a fulltime attachment blocker admin?

How about *.* except what you need?

RE: Exchange store dismounts unexpectedly

2002-01-18 Thread Terry Lynch

I was having a similar issue last weekend which turned out to be a User
who subscribed to a Macromedia application Development l-serv. Another
person subscribed to that same list had a Korean Signature File and was
pretty active on that list. Every time he posted to l-appDev, the
Exchange IS would crash after GroupShield choked on the sig file.

The logs showed:

Event ID: 1048
"McAfee GroupShield failed to send message"

Event ID: 257
"An internal error occurred in GroupShield"

These Events would show up 1 minute prior to the IS crashing.

McAfee has not responded to my request for a resolution to this problem
yet.

I have just blocked Macromedia's IP and asked the User to subscribe
using a Hotmail account until the issue is resolved.

We get an error stating the the store stopped unexpectedly and the
Exchange will then restart the store.

We are running Exchange 2000 with SP1 on a Windows 2000 HP server with
SP2.

The event log errors are as stated above. Thanks.

We've had problems with our Exchange store dismounting unexpectedly.
This
happens quite often - sometimes two or three times a week. We are using
GroupShield anti-virus software. Other than that, we have nothing else
running on that server. Has anyone experienced this problem? Would
appreciate any thoughts or ideas we could get. Thanks.

Migrating AD/E2k to another Native AD/E2k Domain?

2002-02-18 Thread Terry Lynch

Has anyone on this list had to migrate an Exchange2000 Server from one Active
Directory domain to a new Active Directory domain? If so, do you have any advice?

Both Exchange and AD are currently running in Native Mode.

Most migration tools only seem to support NT4 > AD and not AD > AD. There doesn't
seem to be too much information on migrating from win2000 Active Directory available
either.

RE: Outlook 2007 - Win7 - Password Prompts - confusion??

2010-03-26 Thread terryl (Terry Lynch)
Hi James,

If your Windows 7 systems have e1kexpress Event ID 27 in the system log,
then you should also take a look at the SipsEnabled System Idle Power
Saver (SIPS) in the Advanced tab of your Intel NIC. You may need to
update the Intel NIC drivers to see the SIPS feature in the Advanced
tab?

Check out the Intel discussions below on the 82567LM NIC that ship with
new Dell systems.

http://communities.intel.com/message/72785

Not only can this setting cause Outlook 2007 to prompt for password, but
it may also corrupt the OST file.

Here is a tool that can be used to control the SIPS feature:

Subject: Outlook 2007 - Win7 - Password Prompts - confusion??

I have an issue with outlook that I'm finding a little difficult to
troubleshoot. Trying to search for ideas is like finding a needle in a
haystack.

Infrastructure details:-

Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 clients.

Outlook 2007 SP2

Exchange 2007 SP1 with Update Rollup 7

Outlook Anywhere in use

ISA Server in the mix but for this issue it is all internal.

These clients are laptops connected to the network via wired and
wireless (they are sitting on a dock) at the same time. Outlook has
been opened without any issues and has been in use. If the user then
undocks the laptop the following occurs:-

XP SP3 clients reconnect to the Exchange server and it's all pretty
seamless. The user doesn't notice.

Windows 7 clients attempt to reconnect to the Exchange server but fails
and then prompts the user for credentials. Entering the creds just
results in continuous password prompts.

If the user then closes and reopens Outlook on the Windows 7 client all
is well.

Going the other way (from Wireless to Wired) there is no issue.

Any suggestions are more than welcome!!
