Re: Exchange 2007 SP 1 and Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.2
What is the OOF issue? The Out of Office (OOF) can be enabled by a user from 3 different locations (Outlook client, OWA or the Blackberry device). In an Exchange 2007/Outlook 2007 setting, you can also specify whether the OOF will be internal only or external only” or both. In an Exchange 2007/Outlook 2003 setting, the only option is to enable OOF for all messages. The OOF will be sent once per incoming email from a sender (in other words, multiple emails originating from same sender don't get multiple OOFs). Now, we have tested these scenarios 1. User on an Exchange 2003 SP2 server with no Blackberry - No OOF issues 2. User on an Exchange 2003 SP2 server with BB on a BES 4.1.4 - No OOF issues 3. User on an Exchange 2007 SP1 server with no Blackberry - No OOF issues 4. User on an Exchange 2007 SP1 server with a Blackberry device - OOF issues. In option 4, irrespective of where we set the OOF (from a client Outlook 2003/any SP version or Outlook 2007 /RTM or SP1 OR Blackberry device OR 2007 OWA), the behavior is same. The OOFs go out for around 20 minutes or so and then totally stops. It does not matter what OOF setting we have in the e2k7/o2k7 combination (External only /internal and external or just internal) Other useful links http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-admin-corner/112250-out-office-oof-corruption-blackberry-bes-exchange-2007-a.html http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-admin-corner/112250-out-office-oof-corruption-blackberry-bes-exchange-2007-a.html Symptoms Note: While this looks very similar to this on the Ehlo blog (http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/04/04/437544.aspx http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/04/04/437544.aspx ), it is not the same issue Steps we have taken so far (has not resolved the issue) 1. Can't you just email enable a public folder and have all the users check that? Assign send as to the pf so users can send as the generic email. This way users have both their email as well as attend to emails in the public folder ( can have subfolders in pf called incoming, completed etc) if you want. Re: Blackberry question
In a large financial organization like the one I work for, we have around 9000 blackberry devices. No windows mobile or EAS since the Security folks won't approve it. (Can't block SMS, 3rd party messaging, etc) While I love Exchange as a mail server, the EAS solution is still immature (we have tested even e2k7 sp1). It also needs a enterprise CAL (so EAS is not really free). -Original Message- From: Joe Heaton [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2007 13:59:57 To:MS-Exchange Admin Issues exchangelist@lyris.sunbelt-software.com Subject: Blackberry question We currently use Windows Mobile devices, connecting directly to our Exchange server. Unfortunately, the Moto Q phones we purchased for our new Executive Director, and Assistant Director, have had charging issues, as in they wouldn’t take a charge when plugged in. It is possible, also, that the Director has no clue how to charge his phone, but I hope that scenario is unlikely. Anyway, I guess at his previous employment, they used Blackberry devices, and he’s starting to question why we don’t use Blackberry here. I explained to him that in an enterprise situation, we would need to have a separate server for Blackberry, and we would also need to purchase the server software. Also, no one in IT has had experience managing this type of solution, so there would be a learning curve for us. He also asked the same type of questions of another IT guy, so I think he’s going to be going to our manager and pushing to implement a Blackberry solution. Which finally brings me to my question here. I’ve looked at the Blackberry website, and I see two versions of the BES software. The Express, and the regular. What’s the difference between the two? If I only have a handful of users, would it be better to get the Express version, which has no cost?
