Forwarded Mail to POP3 A/C Bouncing - Getting desperate

2002-02-08 Thread Kevan Dickinson

I have posted this before but I am still having big problems.

We have Exchange 5.5 sp4 installed on NT4SBS

When I attempt to send mail via our Exchange Server to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] my mail is bounced and the return
message looks like it comes from

Mail Delivery Subsystem [[EMAIL PROTECTED]]

The bounce message is as follows

he original message was received at Fri, 8 Feb 2002 16:28:25 GMT
from esweeper.th.hiway.co.uk [195.12.4.201]

   - The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
(reason: 554 5.0.0 rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset 3)

   - Transcript of session follows -
... while talking to pop3.hiway.co.uk.:
 MAIL From:[EMAIL PROTECTED] SIZE=1016 RET=FULL
 554 5.0.0 rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset 3
554 5.0.0 [EMAIL PROTECTED]... Service unavailable

When I use a laptop and dial out to an ISP and send to the same user they
get the message.

They even get the message if from the outside a/c I send the mail to their
office address and it is delivered to them as an alternative recipient
(Under delivery options)

It only looks like only mail that we try to send internally to these users
but is being forwarded out to them is not going.

I am really baffled

I have coppied the headers from the returned email below. If anyone can
decipher them and tell me whets going wrong I would be very grateful.

RE: Forwarded Mail to POP3 A/C Bouncing - Getting desperate

2002-02-08 Thread Campbell, Rob

This could be a dns problem. What do the dns records for the two servers
look like, and what do the MX records for the two domains look like?

RE: Forwarded Mail to POP3 A/C Bouncing - Getting desperate

2002-02-08 Thread Brien Mayer

Hope this helps. This is what Microsoft said that error meant.

There is no route for the given address space, for example, an SMTP connector is
configured, but this address does not match.

DNS returned an authoritative host that was not found for the domain.

The routing group does not have a connector defined; mail from one server in one
routing group does not have a route to another routing group.

An SMTP Protocol error occurred.

And are you using virtusertable on your sendmail server? If you are, is
this user in the table and what are they being aliased as? You may have
created an alias loop.
