RE: INbound IMC mail conversion processing SLOW
It's the IMAIL process that does the conversion. How are you measuring the process? Anything in the event logs? RE: INbound IMC mail conversion processing SLOW
The event logs register nothing of any interest. Everything appears to be running fine except... We are running a few performance counters (Inbound bytes/hr, Inbound Messages/hr, Queued MTS-IN etc...) All seems fine until we start to receive 2800 - 3200 messages/hour and then all goes painfully slow. The measure of Inbound bytes doesn't seem to matter to much. We are considering running a second IMC and separating Inbound/outbound traffic in an attempt to reduce the load on the one connector. Not sure if this will fix our prob though. Funny also, (and not a little unsettling) that this has just started happening all of sudden, no recent changes have been made to either the exchange infrastructure or the configuration of our DNS/DMZ/routing etc... Not happy :( -Original Message- From: Neil Hobson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, 3 May 2002 5:38 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: INbound IMC mail conversion processing SLOW It's the IMAIL process that does the conversion. Originally we resolved inbound names via DNS before delivery, we switched this off for a couple of days to see if it made any difference, Unfortunately it didn't. -Original Message- From: Reto Inversini [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, 6 May 2002 9:44 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Re: INbound IMC mail conversion processing SLOW > Messages/hr, Queued MTS-IN etc...) > All seems fine until we start to receive 2800 - 3200 messages/hour and then > all goes painfully slow. RE: INbound IMC mail conversion processing SLOW
This won't help you per se, but I've got a customer who processes around 5,000 messages per hour (in and out) on a server that still has a single Pentium Pro 200, with 384Mb RAM. That being the case, it would make sense that your hardware is capable of achieving your desired level of performance. When was the last time performance optimizer was run on this server? Was it run after the application of SP4? Also, what about any virus scanning? And how is the disk subsystem coping?
