I have an Windows 2000 server SP2 with a copy of Exchange 5.5 SP4 installed and working. When I go to set-up the internet mail service I get an error message saying that I need to configure DNS. We don't have a DNS server (although we do have Wins) as all DNS records are held by our ISP. How do I go about configuring this feature. IN NT4.0 SP6 with Exchange 5.5. SP4 it was possible to just enter a DNS name with out the server IP. Any pointers would be welcome. RE: Configuring the IMS on exchange 5.5 on a Win 2K Server
Under NT4, you still needed to fill in the DNS host and domain names within the networking properties on the server in order to install the IMS - it's probably the same under Windows 2000, e.g. you need to enter the primary DNS suffix of the server, etc. Neil -Original Message- From: Steve Wyman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Posted At: 09 January 2002 10:36 Posted To: Sunbelt Exchange List Conversation: Configuring the IMS on exchange 5.5 on a Win 2K Server Subject: Configuring the IMS on exchange 5.5 on a Win 2K Server We have a pure NT4.0 SP6 environment into which I'm trying to introduce a new exchange server running on Win 2K. Write down the EXACT error and plug it into the MSKB. There is an article that explains the exact steps to get past that. -Original Message- From: Neil Hobson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 4:50 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Configuring the IMS on exchange 5.5 on a Win 2K Server Under NT4, you still needed to fill in the DNS host and domain names within the networking properties on the server in order to install the IMS - it's probably the same under Windows 2000, e.g. you need to enter the primary DNS suffix of the server, etc. Title: RE: Configuring the IMS on exchange 5.5 on a Win 2K Server This is exactly the issue I ran into when migrating E5.5 to Win2k, cleared up after adding the Primary DNS suffix, like Neil suggested.
