RE: Ed Crowley Server move and login problems for remote users

2001-09-13 Thread Mark L. Kelsay

I believe that the reason you are getting the prompt for the login now
is that exchange server is now a member server and not a PDC. I have
experience the same issue in the past. I believe, but not 100% sure
that this is normal operation.

The remote machines are probably connecting via some kind of VPN I would
guess? So these users are not being initially authenticated with the
PDC. So as they connect to the exchange server to access mail they need
to provide a valid username/password/domain.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Subject: Ed Crowley Server move and login problems for remote users

Hi,

We're in the process of using the Ed Crowley Server move Method and have
moved the bulk of our mailboxes from the Primary exchange server 5.5
sp4,
which is also the PDC to a new server running 5.5 sp4. The internal lan
clients have had no issues getting moved. Remote persons have no
problems
with the move except one. Remote users are on everything from dialup to
home office dsl,etc and running win2k pro. They are receiving a login
prompt when they launch outlook despite having already entered those
credentials upon initial login. Their profiles are pointing to the
correct
new server and changed to the new profile on their own as Ed Crowley's
method state they would. All profiles are set to login using winnt
authentication. Nothing has changed about their profile excepting the
move
mailbox process to the new server. In the past they simply logged into
the system once and launched outlook and were off and running.

To test I have recreated the profiles on their system and have entered
an
entry to the new exchange server in their hosts file. No go. They still
get the login prompt. Can anyone provide some insight?

Thanks

Both Servers are in the same domain. The new exchange server is a member
server in the same domain and has joined the site per Ed's Instructions.
