Hi all,
I'm looking for some software that will attach those wonderful
little email disclaimers to the bottom of all outgoing emails? Preferably
something simple and cheap. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles.
We're Exchange 2k SP2 with Outlook 98 clients.

Thanks everybody!

RE: Email Disclaimers

2002-03-21 Thread Clayton

In some places, it is a legal requirement to put them in place, to ensure
confidentiality and freedom of information laws can be enforced. Additionally, in some
cases, if an employee of a company writes an email which could get the company in
trouble, a properly worded disclaimer can protect the company's directors and
shareholders from any potential problems that may arise from the email.

In terms of doing this in Exchange 2000, stuff like Mime Sweeper, and other mail virus
software can do this, and you can customize the message to include a disclaimer as
well as a certification of the mail being swept for virii. You can also write an Event
Synch in Exchange 2000 (not that I have done this) which will append the disclaimer to
every mail leaving the organisation, and all that will cost you is time spent creating
and testing. You can probably use E2K Polices to specify which users have the event
applied to them so you have a little more control in testing (if you don't have a test
bed that is!)

Simple and cheap? I guess it's all relative.

With Exchange2000 an SMTP transport event sink will do it. You can write
your own in VB, VBS perhaps or C++ (see MSDN) or purchase a product from a
company that has already done it, such as:

That brings up another point... for every Exchange2000 CAL you are able to
use Outlook2000/2002 as a mail client. Why still Outlook98?

But, yes, the simplest and cheapest route would be client side signatures or
*gulp* stationery.

Disclaimers are not legally binding documents on the receiver. That is a

Disclaimers are not legally binding documents on the receiver. That is a
misnomer. All it does it protect the sender if the message goes to a
third/fourth party. Please check with your own lawyers because I am not a
lawyer but deal with them almost daily.

There's also the IMS Extention on MS website. I downloaded it, installed it
and still can get it to work! Anyone ever use this on a Exch 5.5 sp4,
NT4 sp6a box?

Correct, maybe I did not splain too good :-) If you have something in there
to limit the liability of a company or it's directors in the UK, it is a
mild form of protection.
