What is the OOF issue?

The Out of Office (OOF) can be enabled by a user from 3 different locations
(Outlook client, OWA or the Blackberry device).  In an Exchange 2007/Outlook
2007 setting, you can also specify whether the OOF will be internal only or
external only” or both.  In an Exchange 2007/Outlook 2003 setting, the only
option is to enable OOF for all messages. The OOF will be sent once per
incoming email from a sender (in other words, multiple emails originating from
same sender don't get multiple OOFs).

Now, we have tested these scenarios

1.  User on an Exchange 2003 SP2 server with no Blackberry - No OOF issues
2.  User on an Exchange 2003 SP2 server with BB on a BES 4.1.4 - No OOF
issues
3.  User on an Exchange 2007 SP1 server with no Blackberry - No OOF issues
4.  User on an Exchange 2007 SP1 server with a Blackberry device - OOF
issues.

In option 4, irrespective of where we set the OOF (from a client Outlook
2003/any SP version or Outlook 2007 /RTM or SP1 OR Blackberry device OR 2007
OWA), the behavior is same.  The OOFs go out for around 20 minutes or so and
then totally stops.
It does not matter what OOF setting we have in the e2k7/o2k7 combination
(External only /internal and external or just internal)

2008-02-26 Thread Brown, Larry
This is good to know...and a good argument for us to wait until RIM releases
SP5 for BES...no guarantee it will fix your issue, but at least they won't be
able to say we are running a version that isn't supported with E2k7,SP1.

Our issue with OOF is different, although it does involve Blackberry users. At
first they send old OOF messages even though Outlook shows the new message.
Some of them were sending an old message and a new message. Starting Outlook
with the /cleanrules switch took care of the old message...but now many of our
Blackberry users send two OOF messages.

Re: Exchange 2007 SP 1 and Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.2

2008-02-25 Thread Kat Collins
This is the official statement from RIM about Exchange 2007 SP1 and
BlackBerry 4.1.4 interoperability:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8067/645045/1264708/SDR_154989_BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_for_Microsoft_Exchange_Version_4.1_SP4?nodeid=1396996vernum=0

   - Key issue
  - The BlackBerry(R) Enterprise Server in a Microsoft(R) Exchange
2007 environment might experience issues when generating the RefId for a
message. As a result, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server might not
be able to
  identify all messages as unique
   - Impact
  - If messages with duplicate RefIds exist in a user's mailbox,
the BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot process them appropriately or
synchronize properly. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server might not
deliver all
messages to a device when it returns into a coverage area.
   - Probability of occurrence
  - The probability of occurrence is high.
   - Monitoring the issue
  - Monitor the BlackBerry Messaging Agent log file for duplicate
  RefIds.
   - Recommendations
  - Upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 SP5 once
  it is available.
   - Resolution
  - This issue will be resolved in BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  Version 4.1 SP5.
