How many channels do you need for phones at max usage?

Hello,

We are currently connected via DSL that I just tested at 2.4Mbps Down
and 556Kbps up and we pay about $70 a month and we have a PRI for our
phones.

Well my ATT rep is suggesting we convert the PRI to a IP Flex T1, our
concern is the download speed going from 2.4Mbps to 1.5Mbps and some of
that going to the phones.

Anyone have any good info regarding this, how our users will be
affected? We have about 30 users on this circuit.

Your users will have become accustomed to the avilable bandwidth,
contracting it will be a big deal. IIRC, phones take 20Kbps/line when in
use...

2009-11-20 Thread David Mazzaccaro
From what I am reading...
IP Flex T1 - this is probably their term for SIP trunking.
What that means is you have 1.5M T1 circuit to use either for phone
calls or for internet.
If you use 20 lines for phone, that doesn't leave you with much left for
internet traffic.
How about getting (2) T1 circuits, have ATT bond them together, and this
would give you 1.5M for phone calls, 1.5M for internet?

Do you have any other DSL options? I don't buy his latency sales pitch.
If your IP flex T1 is pegged you are going to feel it more, IMHO. I
have 2 data T1 lines bonded for about 50 users plus Exchange and our web
sites. I pretty much have at least 1 of the T1s worth of bandwidth used
throughout the business day. We are about ready to switch over to 10MB
Ethernet.

That's hooey. If you needed a lot of interaction latency might be
important. Or if you were used to satellite internet service it might be
important. While the difference in latency between DSL and his offering may
be measurable, it may not be noticeable to you or your users. The lack of
available bandwidth will be measurable AND noticeable.
