I had this problem for several users - it was caused by an Outlook plug-in that was part of an email archiving system. The vendor has since updated the plug-in which seems to have resolved the problem. We couldn't even end task Outlook on the PC, so we would pskill it from another computer. Cached mode? ScanOST? How big is the mailbox? How long have you given Outlook to 'recover' before 'bringing it down'?
