RE: Unable to add "from" and "bcc" fields

2001-09-19 Thread Miller Bonnie L.

Outlook is in Corporate Mode--is there a known issue here? I figured it had
something to do with my customization with the .mst file...

Thanks,
Bonnie

Outlook 2000, SR-1 installed via AD .msi using custom .mst file created by
me with the Office Reskit (download from MS). (Exchange 5.5 sp3, but
probably irrelevant here).

I recently had to recreate my roaming user profile and now no longer can add
the "from" and "bcc" fields to my e-mail messages. Tried both with Word as
e-mail editor and not. If I open an old message and go to the "view" menu,
I can see the from field and bcc field options, but they are grayed out and
unavailable. If I'm in a new message they are not even on the list (don't
know if they should be there). Am I just looking in the wrong spot to add
this?
I'm domain admin and local admin on my Win2k pro sp2 pc. I need the "from"
field so I can reply back to someone as our postmaster account instead of me
(I know I can get around this another way in the meantime, but I previously
had the "from" field). Other users on our network also appear to have the
same problem and some will likely need bcc. Anyone know a reg entry or Q
article that might help? I can't seem to find anything on the MS site or
Google, but I'm probably looking for the wrong thing.

Thanks,
Bonnie M.

I and many others here will all say... 'Do Not Use Word as your Email
editor!' It sucks and manages to cause more problems than it solves.

I think I'll try this one under my "test" logon--I'm sure this

Alternatively, if dynamic menus are not the issue try customizing the
menu to add these fields back.

On a new message select Customize from the Tools menu.
On the Commands tab, select the View category.
Under the Commands, scroll through the list until you see the From and
BCC fields. Drag these items to the view menu.

Hope that one of these methods resolves your issues!

Is it possible these menu commands are just hidden? Outlook 2000 uses
dynamic menus by default. Try using the keyboard shortcut of ALT V + I
and see if that pops up the From field.

RE: Unable to add "from" and "bcc" fields

2001-09-19 Thread Dahl, Peter

Bonnie,

Glad that worked for you. Unfortunately I am not real familiar with the
Word as E-Mail editor so I can't offer any suggestions there.

Also, since it sounds like this was caused by dynamic menus, here are a
couple additional tips in case you get calls from your users. At the bottom
of the menu you should see two down arrow heads. If you click on those you
will see the hidden menu items, after you use this feature it then appears
without needing to click on the down arrows. In addition, if you want to
turn off dynamic menus so that all options are visible all the time here are
the steps to disable this feature:

On the Tools menu of Outlook select Customize.
On the Options tab you will see a check box for "Always Show Full Menus"

Thanks Peter--this solved the problem. It didn't work with Word as the
e-mail editor, but as soon as I turned that off, I was able to use Alt-V+I
and Alt-V+B (my guess worked :> ) to add the from and bcc fields.
Interestingly, they are both now available on my view menu to turn on and
off as I please. When switching back to word as the e-mail editor, the
fields are there, but there is no "on/off" checkbox on the view menu.
