I have Securecast installed on my workstation so McAfee can push the dat
files to me, but they have never pushed the extra.dat file to me. So, how
did you get it?

extra.dat's are usually referenced in 'removal instructions' section of the
AVERT page for the virus you're looking for, in this case W32/Myparty.a@MM

I'm able to find the file on McAfee's site. What I want to know is does
McAfee push it using securecast or is there another method of getting the
Extra.dat file without having to go out and search for it.

MMS's signature update gets it from Tumbleweed's site (hourly pull, not push) -
they make it available quite soon after McAfee does.  Believe since the McAfee
engine is embedded in the MMS product, it is like an OEM version - anyway, it
works :-)

There's an EXTRA.DAT and a SUPEREXTRA.DAT available: links to them about
half-way down the Virus Information Library page under Removal Instructions.
Fooled me for a while yesterday when I couldn't find the link altho' the
existence of extra.dat was mentioned at the top of the page!!

Just block the .COM attachment (as part of your overall executable
attachment blocking policy). Even Groupshield allows you to do that.

NAI shows under Virus alerts the W32/Myparty.a@MM is a medium risk virus and
that the update will be released 01/30/2002. Thats tommorrow!! this thing is
getting thru now. anyone have any other info.

 There's an EXTRA.DAT and a SUPEREXTRA.DAT available: links to them about
 half-way down the Virus Information Library page under Removal
Instructions.
 Fooled me for a while yesterday when I couldn't find the link altho' the
 existence of extra.dat was mentioned at the top of the page!!
