You can get rid of this message by editing /etc/conf.modules and
changing the part that reads:

dma=x,y

to read:

dma=x dma16=y

That should fix it up!

Good luck!

I think your problem is that Windows didn't manage caps letters correctly, so
try to burn without adding anything, then add a second session. Then this
should be fine.

[expert] sound card blues

1999-04-26 Thread mike montgomery

Hey does anybody know the trick to get a cranky sound card to function??
I upgraded from th 2.0.36 to the 2.2.5 kernel(using rpms) and have been
unable to get sndconfig to work. When linux boots the error I get is
"module failed too many dma's" .Under the 2.0.36 kernel sndconfig would
work well enough that I could play cd's but not mp3's or wav files. I
downloaded the oss open sound system sound driver from
http://www.4front-tech.com/ . The program is not free but you can download
a free trial version of it. I installed it but I can't get it to work . I
think part of the problem is that my computer is a laptop. Has anybody
tried the oss program ?
Any ideas that might help?

[expert] Install from CD-ISO

1999-04-26 Thread Geoffrey Croxson

Help! is all I can say.

I d/l the ISO and burnt it fine. I can boot from CD made from ISO and write
boot floppy image. But when it comes to mount the CDROM for the install, I get

"That CDROM device does not seem to contain a Mandrake CDROM"

When I know fully that it does. What I was wondering, before I burn again,
is, I burned other apps and addons to a directory in the root of the CDROM
calls 'EXTRAS'. Would this have any effect on the detection of valid
Mandrake CDROM, or is it something else. I am running a P2-266, 64MB RAM,
Pioneer DR-A04S CDROM.

Looking @ the syslog on tty3 I see the kernal recognises the CDROM, so am
dumbfounded. I have never had this problem before installing Linux on a
system.

TIA

You really should have considered using the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing
list. That's what the list is for.

Just tell the Xconfigurator that you have a Custom Monitor, then fill in the
information it asks for. That's what I do with my monitor.

They're on the CD in the apps/ directory (I think that's right). Either
way, there are pointers to it on the Mandrake website.

There are installation instructions in the directory containing the X
server.

You're welcome!

I didn't have problems with Gnome installation. I just do a rpm -Uvh *.rpm
of the whole Gnome RPM...

Yup. At least with RedHat:

[root@JM Gnome-primary]# rpm -i enlightenment-0.15.3-5.i386.rpm
failed dependencies:
libFnlib.so.0 is needed by enlightenment-0.15.3-5
libaudiofile.so.0 is needed by enlightenment-0.15.3-5
libesd.so.0 is needed by enlightenment-0.15.3-5
libttf.so.2 is needed by enlightenment-0.15.3-5

Are you /sure/ of this? I'm currently using Enlightenment w/ Gnome, but
I used to run Enlightenment DR 0.13 on a Debian 1.3 w/o Gnome at all.
Just needed the Imlib, I think.
