Try change the limit while logged in as root. You can see by the nature of the command that it shouldn't be run haphazardly by any user. [expert] Netscape still hangs when offline.
I've upgraded to NS 4.61 'stable', and it hangs when loading (or more correctly, it get to 'connecting to host 127.0.0.1'). I've tried 'export MOZILLA_NO_ASYNC_DNS=true' , but this still doesn't seem to fix it. -- *===* | Andrew Mitchell | | Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | Home Page http://members.tripod.com/Ajmitchell/ | | ICQ 11392490 (ajmitch)| *===*

[expert] Problems with X
Hello, Ive been having a few problems lately..my two #9 video cards are having 'creative differences' with X 3.3.3.1 and 3.3.4. A stock mandrake install works fine with my #9 Revolution IV, but it doesnt with my #9 Imagine 128 - series 2. (the two cards are in different machines) Also, ive tried updating X3.3.4 on here (revolution IV) from RPMS in the cooker, but that broke X. I rpm -Uvh'd X* and re-ran the configuration programs. The VGA16 server worked at this point, but the I128 server did not. great work on mandrake, great work with the cooker, and i would appreciate it if anybody can help me with my problem here. Jason

[expert] Slowness starting applications
I recently upgraded my box to AMD K6-2 350 with 128MB PC-100 SDRAM on an ASUS P5A motherboard. Before that it had a Cyrix P150 with 64 MB EDO and a Shuttle motherboard. I reinstalled Mandrake 6.0 with the latest from one of the mirrors. I've installed any updates that have come out using MandrakeUpdate. When I start an application there is a considerable delay before the application actually begins. This happens both in X and from the console. For example, I was using gnumeric the other day and it took close to a minute before the window was displayed. But I don't think this is related to a specific set of applications because I've noticed delays running emacs from the console and running man even takes about 15 seconds before it displays the page. --- Jason Bodnar + [EMAIL PROTECTED] + Tivoli Systems I swear, sometimes I'd forget my own head if it wasn't up my ass. -- Jason Bodnar

RE: [expert] Strange problem ? (ppp)
One possibility: The kPPP that comes with M6.0 has a bug. If you user does NOT adjust their speed setting, it leaves a "blank" setting in the config file. This blank setting will keep pppd from connecting properly (ie, dial up works, login script works, but PPP doesn't come up). To fix: 1) Toggle the speed setting (ie, set to 9600 and save, then back to 115200 and save) 2) upgrade to later version.
