Re: [expert] Dual processor MB ?
No, these depend on a currently non existent AMD 760MP chipset. This is due out sometime within the next two quarters. Currently, there are no options for dual processor AMD systems. These are expected to be out before Intel can figure out how to get their P4 to run in SMP mode though. Thanks Totally agree on the price / performance ratio in the favor of Athlon /=20 Duron ... But are there any SMP motherboards supporting AMD CPUs available= I believe there are. Asus, I believe, just came out with a dual socket A board. Check http://www.asus.tw. Oleg David E. I sorta know how you feel. My drakconf is out of commision also. But I think it has more to do with kde upgrades than the kernel. At least the 2.4.3-13mdk fixed my memory problems. Unfortunately, I had to elect to reinstall everything. I am now in the process of downloading a bunch of src rpms to bring back kde 2.1.1, kernel-2.4.3, XFree86-4.0.3, and several other things. [expert] How dost one change from rpm-3.x to rpm-4.x?
I am presently in the late process of rebuilding my system. I reinstalled Mandrake 7.2 and am now upgrading beyond 7.2, but not quite to 8.0. I am trying to do this cleanly and systematically. I am about to switch to glibc2.2, rebuild my kernel, rebuild XFree86, and then, I would like to upgrade from rpm-3.x to 4.x. Last time I attempted that particular change, it totally dicked up my system with all my previously installed rpms being lost to the new rpm. I would like to avoid this on this go around. [expert] Using .rpm files to upgrade from kde 2.0.1 to kde 2.1
Myself and many others have had problems upgrading to kde 2.1 from 2.0.1, even though we're all using .rpm files. I have seen a few FAQs on the web on how to do this, but none that I've seen remarked about getting any errors that prevent such an upgrade. I run a mailing list on my machine and cannot afford any downtime that could happen as a result of screwiness with a kde upgrade; however, I *really* want the newest version of Konqueror ;) So, does anyone have a solution to these problems with dependencies and symlinks that myself and many others have been getting? Thanks, Eric Well, they say that the only way to be 100% certain is to steamroller the disk, but I think its safe to say that shred makes it harder for the experts to recover the data. In my very limited understanding, delete makes no effort to actually delete the data - it just marks that disk space as available. So the data is still on it, unless some other process writes data over it. Shred overwrites the data several times and then marks the space as available.
