[expert] kde3 language module problem

2002-09-04 Thread Andrea Fabris

I found a strange problem on my kde 3.0.2 (and 3.0.3) installation form kde

In the language setting of kcm (the kde control panel) there is no more the
charachter set selection!
I tried to use the euro symbol under the kde3 system but it doesn't work
(nor displayed or inserted in kde3 applications) while in othe gnoe and X
application it's all ok.
In kde2.2.2 og mdk8.2 it worked, i don't know now what's going on.. :((

It seems like in kde3 the charset it's bolcked on iso8859-1 so the euro
symbol isn't displayed..

Anyone has some clue?

Thanx
Andrea Fabris

[expert] alsa 0.9 and mandrake kernel

2002-06-25 Thread Andrea Fabris

Hello everybody!!

I'd like to upgrade my alsa sound system to the recent 0.9 version, but i
didn't find any packaged file for mandrake.
So i decided to compile the alsa drivers, but when i start the configure
scrip complains about my version.h file: it says i haven't it or it's a
wrong version.

Now, i have the kernel source installed and looking in the version.h file i
noticed that there r some reference to the mdk style.
My suspect is that the configure file is checking for plain version.h form
kernel source (i mean the linus one) and so the patched version.h gives
somne problems to the alsa configure script.

Someone could give me some clue?

Thanx in advance
Andrea Fabris

[expert] kde3 and flash plugin

2002-05-29 Thread Andrea Fabris

I don't remeber if someone posted this question yet... i tried to take a
look to the archive but it's hard to find something without a search engine!

The question:
I installed kde3.0.1 with the nsplugin.. i downloaded the latest flash
plugin and copied the archive content in /us/lib/netscape/plugins as written
in the README.
Now, when i use konqueror3 it seems to ignore the flash object in the
pages... it doesn't show anything wehre would have been a flash app!

Someone can help me?

Thank you
Andrea Fabris

[expert] where the hell r the X conf files for users?

2002-05-16 Thread Andrea Fabris

Hi ppl!
I have a problem.
I installed the kde3 on my mdk8.2 and everything works fine under common
users but under root something is worng so i want to revert root to use kde
instead of kde3.
Now im looking for the user configuration file that stands for the use of
kde3.
In the root home ther's a .wmrc, but i edidted it and nothing happened.
Now, looking in startx, the script looks for .xinirc or .XSession in user
home but neither are in the root home (or other users home).

How can i change the default window manger for the users?

Thanx
Andrea Fabris

Re: [expert] iptables for 2.4.13 and later

2001-11-26 Thread Andrea Fabris

u have to upgrade iptables to 1.2.4
However i suggest u to upgrade the kernel 2.4.8 with the recent official
update (cfr. Mandrake security upgrade) by mandrake prior to install a
cooker kernel

 Hi all,,
has the version requirement for ip tables changed from 2.4.13-2mdk and
 later
I'm having probs getting NAT working on 2.4.13-7mdk, after a kernel
 build.

 ./bastille-firewall status
 gives
iptables v1.2.2: can't initialise iptables table 'filter':module is
 wrong version
perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded

 any ideas ??
 TIA

Re: [expert] dual booting with Win2k

2001-10-23 Thread Andrea Fabris

No prob.
I use the same configuration and grub as boot loader.
grub calls the w2k boot manager when booting windows partition, so he can
continue to use both w2k and w98.
If he has some problem he has only to use the fixmbr util shipped with the
win2k console

One note: i had some problem cause mdk inserted some strange lines in the
lilo/grub conf file. mdk added some lines for mapping the hard disk device.
i deleted these lines and now all works correctly

One of the guys I work with is interested in putting Mdk8.1 on his
workstation to try to learn to use it. His box presently dual boots
Windows98 and 2000 and he uses both systems at times depending on what
he has to do. He has a 30GB hard and therefore has enough room for all
three systems. Are there any gotcha's or problems in doing this -
particularly since 2000 uses it's own boot loader?

 Thanks.

Re: [expert] dual booting with Win2k

2001-10-23 Thread Andrea Fabris

Yes it works either.
However i prefer grub because it gives u more control durign the booting
phase.
Thanx to grub architecture i found the mapping problem on mdk8.1
Because of grub let u edit the booting sequence at boot time, u have more
control

Thanks - I'd hate to trash his system trying to get him to switch ;-).

Since you mentioned lilo/grub regarding the config file I hope it's safe
to assume lilo will work in this regard as well as grub? I understand
lilo better cuz I've used it longer and would prefer to use it if
 possible.
