I'm trying to set that up right now, as I get the time. It's supposed to be lots better than NIS, after you get it all set up, although I'm not finding it the easiest thing to get my head around. LDAP has some security advantages over NIS, as well as some functional advantages. But it can be a bear to get your head around. RE: [expert] Spamassassin + CommuniGate Pro config
Thanks. Are you using this setup? I also need to know how scaliable spamassassin is. Will it handle 20,000 users at around 30 emails a second. Keep in mind that their will be a virus scanner, communigate using their webmail for around 15,000 of the users, 2,000 using pop or imap and the other 3,000 are forwarded to MS exchange(including myself and I hate it too, but once someone sets it up you get locked into It big time. It's the heart of communicatios so there isn't much that can be done except upgrade when a new version comes out.) The OS is RedHat Advance server (RHAS) (I know this mandrake but the redhat mailing list sucks). The box will be a dell poweredge 6450 with Quad Xeon Processors @ 2GHz and 16 GB DDR SDRAM(not purchased). One question is if anyone knows about the clustering for RHAS would it be possible to use smaller system (poweredge 2650)and a NAS for storage. With say 3 of them with dual processors, would you get more avaliablity and power for less cost? I don't know if you can do that with communigate but just a though I had instead of putting on a big box and then having a redundant server (not quite as beefy) Thanks Brian -Original Message- From: John Haywood [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 10, 2003 7:57 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] Spamassassin + CommuniGate Pro config On Fri, 10 Jan 2003 07:12 am, Brian York wrote: If anyone is using these two together would someone please send me some configuration files. RE: [expert] users with same permissions as root
If you make all the root passwords on every machine (17 linux machines) you are asking for more trouble than my way because if an unauthorized user gets the root password then they can shut down everthing. Were I work we have 83 machines (linux, VMS, windows) the root/administrator password is different for each and VNC password is different. Brush up on your security before you start telling people that they are asking for troble. And another thing I don't know what you affiliation with linux is and how you use it but when you login to a server it is for superuser type activities any way. Its not you typical browse around to see whats on it or experiment with new commands. You shouldn't even trust yourself with root privs on your user account. If your admins can't remember the root password, they shouldn't be administering the system, IMHO... When i leave college in a few days i will also be leaving this wonderful T1 connection and the constant connection and looking at 3 months of 56k (ohh lord help me 1MB/s vs 5KB/s) Thus now that i am full time linux user (hurray) it may make my home network not work as smth as it did with XP (note: not prasing M$ at all) The nice XP to XP to XP to XP thing: over x-mas break i had all 4 comp using winXP 1 server and 3 clients (i know xp isn't servre software but follow me on this, hehe) With a xp server it had the nice dial up gateway set up were you could share access to all the comp to be able to disconnect and connect to the internet with out having to go to the server and do it. My prob: Is there anyway to add a linux computer in to the network and have the same convenience as if i was using XP (being able to disconnect the net connection on the server from my linux box) I don't want to change there server to linux because it took my parents a week or so to fully under stand how to login in to xp.
