Re: [expert] kde2 rpms on contrib disk.

2000-03-25 Thread Dean Price

No, they will not upgrade from the previous version.
further more trying to install kde2 while it is still
in development is not for the faint of heart. If you
do succeed and kde2 does load when you boot you will
see that a lot of things still do not work...

 Hi,

If I install the kde2 and qt2 rpm's on the
 contrib disk will it blow
my existing kde installation away or will they
 coexist? It'd be nice if
 it
added it to the chooser for kdm and let me switch
 back and forth. Does
 it do this?

Absolutly, I have a dual PIII 733 with a half gig of
ram but you will have to recompile your kernal to make
it work with dual processors

Re: [expert] Netscape bashing

2000-03-18 Thread Dean Price

Hi all,
I am running Mandrake 7.0 and Netscape 4.08 on a
Pentium 200MMX with 96MB ram with a 133MB Swap.
I have yet to see any problems with any aspect of the
system.

Just thought I would add my two cents.

  Is this a memory leak?

yup, another thing to love about NutScrape. I try
 to keep an eye on
memory usage, dont think I ever let it take that
 much.

Here's something to try: startup x without much
 else running, then load
up netscape, note you memory usage and leave it on
 overnight. See what
you have the next day (provided its still running).
 Then wonder why 1
navigator window requires 30 mb - something I could
 never understand.

Suprising thing is that I have not had any
 problems with stock mandrake

versions, and I've tried a few, were another
 story. I've had to delete
the .netscape directories many times. My 7.0
 install has been up less
than a week, but has had heavy netscape usage so
 I pray this lasts!

And I guess the fake wood I knocked on didn't work,
 'cause it crashed
 twice since.

[expert] Serial Port Digital Camera

2000-03-18 Thread Dean Price

I Have a kodak dc20 digital. I obtained the software
drivers for it but when It scans the ports (ttys0)
It says it can not find any devices... I have my
external port set to use 3f8,irq4 (com1 ... ttys0) but
is not there... I checked the system info and I see no
irq assigned to com1...

This is much disturbing since I have successfully
installed Printer, scanner, oneway cable modem and
even tv-tuner card.

Any ideas on the subject would certainly be
appreciated.

Thanks
