Re: [expert] Mandrake cal program

2001-12-12 Thread H.McM

I have been looking at this problem too, cause its something that bugs me as well.

After looking at the man page for cal, I saw that start on Sunday is the default
unless run with a -m option. Madrake seems to run with the -m option. I could however
find no alias for cal='cal -m' on my system, or any other way of forcing it start on
Sunday. So I decided to 'use the source Luke'.

This then launched a whole heap of other problems. I found out that cal is part of the
util-linux package, so I downloaded the util-linux src rpm. Only to find out that it
only contains *patch* files.

So now there is another burning question. All I want is cal.c, but where is it?

I hope I am just being dumb cause its so late.

Andreas,

Thanks for your suggestion, and yes its something I had tried.

It still gives the same result, ie Monday on the left.

Thats why I am convinced I want to have a look at the source, which is something I

Chris,

I guess its cause noone knows *why* it was changed, only that you can fix the problem
as I did by installed a cooker version of util-linux, or as another poster did by
installing a previous version.

I did try to have a look at the actual source code, but that didnt work as I could
actually find it, as stupid as that might sound. The source rpm only provided a patch.

Depending on the desktop you use (KDE, gnome) there might be a multimedia list

If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me, but I believe that feature was left
out of the KDE version that shipped with 81.

A sneaky way to get it working though, is to install KDevelop, its in there someone.
Akar on the kde-linux mailing list wrote a small set of instructions on what to do to
get this working. A search of the kde-linux mailing archives will turn up his solution.

It means it doesnt matter what processor type you have.

Normally a pacakge will be called xxx-mdk-i386 or xx-mdk-i586 and that means that the
first one will work on a 386 or better, but to run the second one you need a 586
(pentium) or better.

With a noarch, it doesnt matter.

The only other suggestion I have is to try the 2.4.8-34 kernel from the Mandrake 81
update directory. That fixed a parallel port issue with me, but not much else besides.
Or is that the one you are running? Out of the box MDK comes with... ummm
2.4.8-something-less-than-34.

If all else fails, try inserting a toasted cheese sandwich into drive A.

Re: [expert] artwiz fonts for fluxbox

2002-02-09 Thread H.McM

in the firectory containing the fonts, there needs to be two extra files - fonts.dir
and fonts.scale.
The dir file is created by using mkfontdir
THe scale is created using ttmkfdir and is needed by mkfontdir, so ttmkfdir needs to
be run first.
This is all assuming they are true type. Whats the extension on the font??

The other thing to check is the permissions on the fonts themselves. SHould be 644.

Re: [expert] cups setup problems.

2002-02-14 Thread H.McM

Pierre,

Thanks for that - thats the proper way to fix it ;-)

I read the actual cups startup script and there is a conditional statement that says
"if file /usr/sbin/setcupsconfig is executable, then create a default cups file".

SO what I ended up doing was a chmod a-x on that file, and it fixed the problem, but
your solution is much tidier.

Re: [expert] cups setup problems.

2002-02-14 Thread H.McM

William,

Thanks for responding. The printer is a Canon BJC4300.

I tried using printerdrake, but couldnt get it to run.
As root, I started printerdrake, but it wanted to install packages and kept asking for
the first Mankdrake setup disk. I put the disk in the drive, and it just kept ejecting
it and asking for the disk (and I was using the right disk!). The bizarre thing was
that it appeared to want to install kdebase, which is very much already installed!
That bit I dont understand at all.

So thats why I tried editing the cups.conf file manually.

But I traced the problem of the overwritten config file to a line in the cups daemon
script that looks for the executable bit set on a perl script /usr/sbin/setcupsconfig.
You can unset that bit manually as I ended up doing, or through printerdrake, but
seeing how I cant get printerdrake working, the second option is no option.

I have read that link on the mandrake user site, and while full of usefull info, it
was little help re things not working.
