[expert] Server Partitioning

2000-11-09 Thread Sparks, Charley

I am going to convert my NT PDC to a LM 7.2 system this weekend and I will
be running Samba as the software for windows print and file share. I have
done several Linux systems in the past, but I was wondering if I should know
of any special considerations before I set up the partitions. Also I want to
do a full developer install since it will be my primary home machine

Thanks .. Charley Sparks

On the CD under the images sub-directory you'll find the images to make the
various boot diskettes.

[expert] Installation Question

2000-10-25 Thread Sparks, Charley

In my easrly Red Hat days, there was a 2 floppy set you could make with
rawwrite and boot a networked PC and do an install from the RedHat RPM
repository.. a complete install if you wanted.. is there a facility like
this for LM.. or have I missed something in the previous threads ??

[expert] Bootable CD

2000-07-21 Thread Sparks, Charley

I was wondering about making a bootable CD on which I have built a
preconfigured firewall.. ip masque / ip chains etc..

are there any ideas pro or con on this one ? it would be virtually hacker
proof, and could chron to reboot at times to undo any damaged attempted to
it

am I way off base here ??

i have had the same complaint for years. i used to like the ibm pc
keyboard. a very nice quality keyboard but impossible to get unless you
junked an ibm pc. there are probably lots around now. but i've since
switched to the micrsoft keyboards. i have a pro right now and am happy
with it. i like the split, but the keys are not like the ibm. if you
look inside you'll see why. logitech makes all microsoft stuff -
keyboards and mice.

however when lexmark split off from ibm they offered the pc keyboard as
a separate product. i don't know if they still do. the stuff that ibm
sells now in ther computer stores is crap.

but to answer your question, no i don't know because i've never seen a
sun anything. but the old ibm terminal and pc keyboards are top notch.

RE: [expert] GAIM TiK etc.

I just snagged a copy of "everybody" from
http://www.everybuddy.com/index.shtmlI am going to install it tonight ..
sounds promising

:: excerpt from FAQ
Q.
What the hell do those colored icons next to usernames mean?
A. The blue icon is AIM, green is ICQ, red is MSN, orange is Yahoo.

As of right now, Everybuddy has support for AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo! chat
programs. It also has file transfer between other Everybuddy users, and
planned support for file transfer to other users.

Last night, I was able to connect to AIM via Gaim without a problem,
even held a conversation or two. This morning, I get a "no
configuration" error which makes no sense. So, I try the old TiK
client, officially released by AOL a while back. No joy there either,
it connects and then disconnects a few seconds later.

The Java client works, but it's Java, c'mon, let me use AIM to talk to
my idiot friends who don't use ICQ.

Does anyone know if AOL has been playing with their servers again?

Hmmm... I don't understand. Only the 2nd partition is supposed to be
extended. That's an NT (or FAT?) partition. It was created (or at least
modified) with Partition Magic.

The first two partitions were created with PM and 3-5 were (suposed to be)
created by the Mandrake install process. So you're saying I should... No, I
don't think you are. :-) I have to think about what I'm gonna do about this.

Hmmm... indeed. Hmmm...

Well, reinstalling isn't a problem. It's reconfiguring that's a b*tch.

That's probably what I'll have to do. I'll maybe reinstall the whole thing
over the weekend. *Sigh*.
