[expert] Riva TNT 128 problems
Hi all, I've followed the instructions on how to configure the Nvidia drivers, and I can't get it to work with GLX so tuxracer and other gl apps don't work, I edit the XF86Config-4 file and still nothing, my fonts looks ugly tho even with anti-aliasing. Can any help me get this working? I've changed the 'nv' to 'nvidia' and add the module glx to load. I've also tried changing on both the XF86Config and XF86Config-4 because it seens that the X server is using the XF86Config to start up. Any ideas?? Best Regards, Adriano
RE: [expert] LM 8.0 Extension disk
I got the same thing in one machine I was installing which was a AMD 700, I made a boot disk for network installation and everything worked. I hope this helps. The installation goes well with the first disk, but it fails when the second disk is about to finish. The message is Can not find hdlists and goes back to the partition dialog. I have tried downloading the second disk from several different sites, but the results are always the same. LM 8.0 works fine if I install the first disk only, but would like to add the software from the second disk without doing individual packages one by one. Anybody had a similar problem? Thank you. -- Alfredo J. Cole [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tegucigalpa, Honduras
RE: [expert] Urgent! Cannot reinstall LM 8.0
Hello, 2 things to do or try; 1. If you don't need the serial ports disable them in the bios, that may get you thru with the install. 2. About uninstalling Linux, if you don't need the files just repartition or reformat your hard drive. I hope any of this helps. Cannot reinstall LM 8.0 Importance: High Dear friends: Due to human error on my part (a nice way to say that I goofed big time), I will apparently have to reinstall LM 8.0. I set my Bios to CDrom, inserted CD1 and started my reinstallation. I am an old hand at this, so I should be able to do this blind-folded. HOWEVER, suddenly, at the second stage, LM 8.0 stops at: Probing for serial ports. And it seems to stop at this point forever and forever. How do I UNinstall Linux properly so I can REinstall it properly from my CD? All right, I'll reveal my human error: I inadvertently deleted my /etc/X11/XF86Config files. I created a new XF86Config file, but, alas, it's too late. LM80 cannot leap over that probing serial ports barrier. Thanks so very much, folks. RE: [expert] how to uninstall tinyfirewall?
I believe if you click on firewall once it will turn on then again to turn it off. I am not 100% sure tho, but try it. Regards, Adriano -Original Message- From: Chris Friesen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2001 11:33 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [expert] how to uninstall tinyfirewall? I decided to try the tinyfirewall from the mandrake control center, but it locked my machine down way too tight. I want to disable tinyfirewall and make my own rules for iptables from scratch, but I can't figure out how to do it. There doesn't seem to be any way to actually turn it off from the control center (even though it claims that you can) and I can't find the config files where they store the configuration to be set on boot. Can anyone out there help me? I'm not subscribed to the list so if you could cc your replies directly to me that would be great. [expert] Firewall issues with Mandrake 8.0
Hi all! I was running Mandrake 7.1 and my firewall was in ipchains and everything worked fine, since then I've installed mandrake 8.0 and now I run iptables and now my firewall works for about a day or less, then I have to down the external interface and up again and then it works again for about a day or so. Does anyone knows what could cause this?? Or where I should look for the problem in the logs? BTW I am running firestarter for the firewall since I am not familiar with iptables syntax, I've also tried using InteractiveBastille with no luck, after spending 30 minutes anwering questions IP masquering was not working. Please help. Adriano
