Re: [expert] Mozilla 1.1

2002-11-25 Thread newslett
There are some known bugs in Mozilla right now. I've had the same
problem. The only solution is to reinstall Mozilla Main package and
mozilla mail. Once you've done this all should be fine...

Cheers

Hi

When i try to send a message with mozilla mail the whole program crashes
and closes.

Dont know if this is related but the scroll function stopped working on
the mouse as well, logoff and scroll works again for a few hours. Does
not effect the scroll on opera or konsole but mozilla and konqueror
only.

Anyone had this? Both seem to have come about at the same time.

Use K3B, it's much better... ;)

I'm having a strange problem with gcombust. I'm trying to put
some files on a disc (cdr) for a friend but when I go to burn the disc,
all the top level directories give this message; using 000 for
folder1/(.) Then a folder named '000' is created under the real
folder.

I had that problem once, but don't recall exactly what I did to fix it.
Try turning off include dir name and/or adjusting the Default
pathlevel setting and/or making sure No Deep Relocation is off.

If it's not one of those, I can't remember what it was.

Blue skies...Todd

Cool, I'll try that when I get home from work!

Thanks, Mike

Well, I upgraded the box to Mandrake 9 and that solved the problem - go
figure - I wish I could have known what the actual cause was.

 Thanks, Mike

Re: [expert] ML 9.0 final is out?

2002-09-30 Thread newslett

My advice: Wipe it. I upgraded from 8.2 to 9.0 and then did a wipe and
re-install as it fell over in a few spots. Like, it found my sound on
reinstall but not in upgrade etc.

Cheers,
Jason

I note on the Mandrake site what appears to be an announcement that 9.0

being taken for the boxed set.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if doing an upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0
is a doable thing, or is wipe-and-load-from-scratch the way to go? I tried
doing an upgrad from 8.1 to 8.2 that wound up not working quite as well as
advertised, and I just wanted to know if I should skip the try to upgrade
step and go straight to the clean install after wiping step. :-)

 Thoughts?

Re: [expert] mdk 8.2 and kernel 2.4.19 ?

2002-09-29 Thread newslett

It is possible (I have done it) but there are a couple of dependencies
that must be resolved as well (can't remember those off the top of my
head) but other than that, no sweat.

is it just me, or is the mozilla in Mandrake 9.0 beta broken? I noticed that
it kept disappearing intead of launching. I changed my user id from 501 to
503 and some things naturally broke. I fixed those and when I went to launch
it this time, I got an error message. It was missing a default file location
apparently. When I went in and created a new user account it now works. I
realize this may be apples and oranges on the cause of the original problem.
I didn't see any reference in here about anyone else having that trouble. ?

[expert] devMAKEDEV packages

2002-08-20 Thread newslett

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question but here goes

If one is running the dev filesystem is it possible to upgrade these
RPM's without using the installer?? I am under the impression that dev
gets loaded fairly early on and it becomes a real pain to upgrade these
as a result.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am running ML 9.0 B3 plus Cooker
upgrades (minus dev and MAKEDEV =)

Cheers,

Jason

Sorry, you're absolutely right, mounted is correct, poor terminology on
my part. Yup, was going to wait till the RC as you suggested unless
there was an easy peasy way round it but alas there seems not to be.
Thanks anyway.

Cheers,

Jason

More that /dev is mounted rather than that dev is loaded.
 You can boot with devfs=nomount.

That being said there has been a change in the way dev/MAKEDEV install
and call since the B3 release which was done to allow for the upgrade of
these pkgs Even when /devs is mounted and devfsd is running.
Because of this upgrading from the old to the new can be problematic.
On 2 of my systems running current cooker the dev MAKEDEV upgrades
caused difficulties when rebooting requiring that 'rescue' mode be used
and I still had a hell of a time getting the systems back to where they
 would boot even near normally.

My recommendation would be to add dev and MAKEDEV to your skip.list and
use the RC installer to upgrade then when it is released the end of this
 week/first of next week.
