[expert] Artsd

2001-06-03 Thread ninetysix

Just wondering if anyone in the mandrake team is going to fix the artsd
packages soon? Seems that a lot people are also having the same problem with
the 2.1.2-2 artsd packages. Should I downgrade to 2.1.1-7 for now? Thanks
:)

Looks like the mandrake rpms has problems with .wav files. Does anyone
want to provide with some working rpms? Thanks.

I left the newest arts mdk rpm's in place so I'd have all the kde gui
add on stuff and just did a pretty generic install:
   ./configure --prefix=/usr
   make
   make install

so it replaced anything that was in there from the rpm's. logged out of
kde and back in and works good so far.

xmms arts is installed but I'm not using it.

I don't have an answer. I had the same problem so back the system
down to the arts-2.1.1-7 and libarts2-2.1.1-7. After doing so
everything worked. If any one knows how to get arts-2.1.2-2 and
libarts2.-2.1.2-2 to work, I'd like to know how you did it.

Does anyone have any hints or a config file to make xconsole work under X? I
can't seem to get the right syntax to get it working. I always get Couldn't
open console when I launch it with root. Thanks all.

[expert] AntiAliasing with xfs?

2001-05-10 Thread ninetysix

Is xfs sufficient enough to hand antialiasing of TrueType fonts? Would
entering each fontpath in XF86Config-4 including TTF fonts be better? Or
using another font server such as xfstt be better for rendering TTF fonts?
Anyone using AA, please let me know what your set-up is and if TTF fonts are
displayed right. Thanks.

[expert] kdelibs 2.1.2

Anyone compile this yet? Mandrake rpms is not available yet from kde and I
just want to know if anyone had sucessfully compiled the source.

[expert] Kernel config file

2001-04-29 Thread ninetysix

Does anyone have the .config file used by Mandrake or something similar that
closely resembles their kernels? I tried to compile my own kernel and it
came out to about 2MB compared to 700k-800k for mandrake kernels. I though I
already disabled most of the stuff that I don't need but I guess not :)
Really puzzles me how those 700k/800k kernels has so much drivers in it.
Thanks.

[expert] Konqueror in 8.0

2001-04-28 Thread ninetysix

For those of you who didn't do a clean install of Mandrake 8, has anyone
figured out why konqueror crashes with that signal 11 when previewing
text/picture files? I heard that konqueror doesn't crash when you do a clean
install but I really don't want to do this since I have a lot of extra stuff
that I compiled and changed in my system. Would anyone in the mandrake team
investigate on this? :) Thanks.

Re: [expert] Konqueror problem in 8

2001-04-28 Thread ninetysix

I downloaded the kernel 2.4.4 and it compiled just fine. I'm actually not
the only one who are getting crashes with konqueror with the signal 11 error.
Mostly those people who upgraded from a previous release (from 7.2 to me)
has the same problem with konqueror. Hopefully a newer release of kde will
fix this problem?

This is remarkably close to Sigal 11 when compiling. Can you try
compiling the kernel? If you get sig11's when compiling, it inevitably
points to bad hardware, usually RAM.

[expert] Konqueror problem in 8

2001-04-26 Thread ninetysix

Yes I do have the same problem with my system. It's an upgraded 7.2 to 8
install. Konqueror now crashes most of the time specially when viewing a
text file with it.

The application Konqueror (konqueror) crashed and caused the signal 11
(SIGSEGV).

Does anyone have a fresh clean install of Mandrake 8 and is able to view text
files with konqueror without crashing it?

Has anyone else had process died unexpectedly often in mandrake 8? Im
using beta 3 with th X and KDE packages upgraded to those that come with 8.0
