[expert] .config files for the kernels in the kernel*mdk.*.rpm files?

2000-06-11 Thread Jan T. Kim

Dear Mandrake experts,

being the lazy guy I am, I hate doing all those settings in the ``make
xconfig'' screen when I just want to add some "advanced" feature (e.g.
ipchains). However, if I don't want an all-too-plain-vanilla kernel
(no i586 optimizations etc.), I have to go through all these settings.

I think it would be very nice to have the .config files used for making
the *mdk kernels available as starting points for compiling your own
kernels. Does anybody know where I could get them from?

Greetinx thanx in advance, Jan

You can extract them from kernel SRPMS.

Re: [expert] .config files for the kernels in the kernel*mdk.*.rpm files?

2000-06-11 Thread Stephen Boulet

I just have to say that I totally agree.

The most painful way to do it is to download the kernel source rpm, install it,
grab the .config, then uninstall it.

Then download the source from ftp.kernel.org, and copy your .config there.

The reason I did all this, instead of just using the source rpm, was that I had
been having trouble compiling the VMWare modules for smp due to the kernel
header info.
