Try this: - Uninstall abisuite if you don't use it - edit /etc/X11/fs/config and change the line: /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1 to: /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1:unscaled In my system it's the only fix that works. I reinstalled 8.0 just to get the anti-aliased fonts in KDE back. None of the suggestions really worked well. Maybe installing mandrakefreq instead of upgrading was my mistake.
