Interesting; I'm running Mandrake 8.1 here, and I just ran the "lynx --source http:gognome.net|shell" and managed to download and run the installer, without getting the "no support" message I used to get. However, after selecting the download type (full download, of course), I get the error that it can't download the package files. Re: [expert] Evolution on Mdk 8.1
I'm using the 0.99 cooker RPMs, which scared the jeebies out of me at first. After doing a "urpmi evolution" and installing all the dependencies and evolution, I promptly started it up. Well, I couldn't access my Mail or Contact folders. Arghhh... Searched the Ximian bugs and found one that says you need to do a "killev" and continue on. Now, it works great. They fixed all the bug problems that I had with 0.15 (so far). I really have to congratulate Ximian on choosing the right direction to push to get linux on the desktop. I've been using linux since RH6, but never wholly switched till I moved all my Outlook data to evolution. Now, I'm on a Windows free computer and haven't looked back. /curtis ><> On Thu, 2001-11-08 at 15:05, Angus Beath wrote: > I used the 8.0 rpms on mdk 8.1. It seems to be fine, quite stable. Re: [expert] Evolution on Mdk 8.1
I used the 8.0 rpms on mdk 8.1. It seems to be fine, quite stable. Watch out for all the dependency problems - it must have taken me about 2 hours to get it all sorted out - especially since I ugraded to 0.16 then found the 0.99 release. Talk about a double whammy! At any rate, Evolution is good enough I've stopped using Outlook XP (I know, i'm a whore :) ). Go Gnome! And I have to say, Mandrake is now my official OS of choice! Works great - if you build from source and are *very* carefull which rpms you install and which you build outright (from src tarball) The one system I tried using rpm's (from cooker) is still totally screwed, with libpng problems amongst others. The tarball way is a bit tedious but eventually works great without ruining the rest of the system with incompatibilities.
