Have you tried;

http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/hardware/hcups0.html

Cups continues to be a love/hate relationship with Mandrake users
It works for me most every time since its implementation...

However some have had better luck with.
TurboPrint for Linux
http://www.turboprint.de
The free version works fine...
The pay version at 20$ U.S. is still a bargain with higher
resolution, extra features, etc...

I must admit the most frustrating experience with new versions of
any distribution is when a functioning machine/peripherals/hardware
ceases to perform without problems upon installing a new version...
A patience reality check I guess... ;o)

I've checked all the /var/log files I can find and I can detect no reason for the

Tell us:
ls -l /dev/lp* (and symlinks)
ls -l /usr/bin/lp* (and symlinks)
ls -l /etc/printcap
cat /etc/printcap
cat /var/log/lpr/errors, info, warnings
ls /dev/lp0 (work?)
try lpr -P(printer) (work?)
ps -ax | grep lpd
lpc status
Did you run lilo after adding devfs=nomount to lilo.conf?
¿exist the user lp, is in the lp group? is the account enabled?
Maybe somebody in the list can help you if you tell us this info.

 Greetings all,

I have been struggling to get printing to work ever since I installed MDK
8.1. It appears that my printer is recognized (or at least is reflected by
name in the configuration files I've checked) leading me to believe I have
a CUPS problem. Indeed, when I try (as root) in a terminal window to bring
up KUPS, I receive the following:

Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the
authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based
authentication failed DCOPServer up and running.
 language: C

The Kups window then comes up but nothing is reflected as an installed
 printer.

Anyone have any experience with this? I've reinstalled once (as an update)
 with the same results.

 Thanks in advance.

 Rob

Oscar,

Many thanks for the time you are taking on this.

Yes, the owner of /usr/bin/lpq, lpr and lprm is lp:lp. Same with /dev/lp0. No. I
cannot print as root.

Greetings all,

I have been struggling to get printing to work ever since I installed MDK 8.1. It
appears that my printer is recognized (or at least is reflected by name in the
configuration files I've checked) leading me to believe I have a CUPS problem.

The Kups window then comes up but nothing is reflected as an installed printer.

Anyone have any experience with this? I've reinstalled once (as an update) with the
same results.

Thanks in advance.

Rob
