Thanks Daniel...it's there and looks OK (and to tell you the truth I didn't even notice it last time I looked through the .gnome directory (.doh) with that as a starting point I'll look at how it acts at Login and post-boot to see if its getting rewritten. if so, then some backtracking or a simple startup script to replace the file sounds like the way to go Thanks Andrew

Hi Daniel, I've tried it in GCC, Ive tried in in Window manager config and I've tried it by right clicking on the desktop...smae story every time...it lasts for a session and then I'm where I was also..I've just noticed that Gnome-Terminal has started doing the same thing :(

BS""D Hi Andrew, > Anyone else had trouble with changes to the background in Gnome resetting to > the default every time the user logs on? > > I thought it might be a permissions thing, but I cant find anything with odd > permissions in either .gnome or .sawmill dir's ... just a simple question: have you tried to set your background with the "gnome control center"? The question is just because if you change the background inside the control tool of your window manager (e.g. enlightenment) the change lasts for just one session; everytime you logout and login again you'll get your old default. "Gnome control center" worked fine for me! Best, Daniel.
[expert] Gnome background not accepting changes
Hi, Anyone else had trouble with changes to the background in Gnome resetting to the default every time the user logs on? I thought it might be a permissions thing, but I cant find anything with odd permissions in either .gnome or .sawmill dir's Andrew
